This is relating to the thread Wolfman put up recently about having your golf kit stolen.
I know it's been done before but I think it's worth another mention for the newbies and Smiffy in particular. ;)
Picture this...
You go to your car one morning only to find your boot has been forced and all your golf kit has gone.
A few days after calling your insurance, they send you a form to claim back what was stolen.
If they try to argue that perhaps you didn't have everything you have claimed for, could you prove it?
I know some of you keep receipts in a big box, but some are not able to as they may have been presents.
Most of you will have access to a camera these days so why not take a few shots of your stuff including serial nos.
Shoes, bag, clubs, DMDs Go Kart etc, it all adds up.
A posh set up can cost up to £2000 so isnt it worth it?
So Smiffy, before you retire your i 15s to the garage, get them snapped first :D

Great idea that bob, but would the insurers accept photographs of your kit?

It's got to be better than nothing.
Take the pictures in your house, that way you can prove they were there at least once.
Maybe TonyN can tell us which pen we can use to invisibly mark our kit.

I asked my insurance company what the process would be as I do not have all the receipts. I was told a valuation from my club pro would be sufficient.

Good idea to mark the kit with a special pen but is it really worth it? If your kit does get nicked its not going to be nicked to be used, its going to be shifted on ebay within a couple of days - to anywhere in the country or beyond. So the chances of finding it are very slim.
Better to take proper precautions and keep receipts (away from HID of course!) and photos.

Someone had their kit nicked a while back if I remember and had a very good response from the insurance company -all replaced no quibble.

Another good reason for buying kit from your pro.

I bet he can 'find' some copy receipts from when you last bought them.

Of course, he'd expect you to buy the replacement kit from him as well.

Everyone's a winner.

:D

Perfectly reasonable CH......except....... A lot of the members at our club had stuff stolen from their lockers and their insurance companies made them purchase the replacements from the big stores like AG etc. :(

He might talk a load of cobblers sometimes but I bet he could 'find' some copy receipts from when you last bought them.

That's a bit underhand isn't it?
I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing
    :D

Check your policy and make sure you're not tied in to this sort of rubbish deal. It'll only take a couple of quid extra a year to go with a decent company.

Obviously, can't cry over spilt milk etc, but looking to the future this sort of stuff can be avoided.

Ok, so it was a few years ago, and nothing to do with golf, but my insurance company 'suggested' I go with their chosen supplier, but I had the right to agree a settlement figure and go with whomsoever I wanted - the difference was I didn't get the insurance company's guarantee, I had to negotiate one with my company of choice.

I'll swap you a receipt for a set of MP68s for a dozen MOT certificaters ;)

Happened to me a few years ago, they asked me to list what I needed replacing and how much it cost, which I sent them....they then asked me to get a quote from another Pro Shop, so I went up to Wentworth and the quote was about £500 more than my Pro quoted.....a cheque equating to the first quote arrived shortly afterwards....

I have golf insurance and I have told them I have receipts for everything and they have said that if I needed to claim I could just get a quote via my pro which would suffice. I did have AG insurance and they insist that you must have a receipt for everything (I guess they assume if you've got their policy you'll have got your kit there and therefore have proof).

I'm pretty confident if my kit is nicked I'll be sorted without too much trouble and I guess I'm lucky in that I've enough spare kit to rustle up a reasonable replacement set while I wait for it to get sorted.

But if someone is caught and his house is full of sets of clubs, you've got a better chance of getting yours back.

What happens if your clubs are marked with an invisible pen, they get nicked, the insurance company pays out, you buy a load of new gear and then the scrote is found who nicked them and your clubs are recovered??

Do you have to give back all the new gear or do you get to keep both lots??

Just asking........no plan in mind........
