What should I purchase??

Cheers - it is a minefield and while i can get some new gear comfortably i dont want to throw cash away - which i could be????? I have lessons and MY PRO thinks i hit it far enough with my driver, people i play with think its rubbish and a golf salesman (who is a friend) thinks i need more loft. So everyone i speak to give me different advice - hence the post. [/quote

I don't understand why you'd pay someone for their advice and then listen to amateurs and even strangers on here when they give you conflicting advice. Your pro coud have tried to sell you something you don't need, just to line his pockets but he didn't. I certainly don't see why you'd listen to the salesman who clearly has a vested interest in you buyig new gear.

The nail has been well and truly hit on the head

Thanks - I do like to get a wide opinon. Perhaps i shouldnt be so rash and sit on what i have. There was a simlar post on here that was something like - the man makes the clubs not the clubs the man.

I do love some of the comments you get on here regarding certain makes.

What's wrong with a Wilson driver?

Homer, you try every club on the market (and some that aren't) and, judging by your handicap movement, don't appear to be able to use any of them and yet you advise someone to lose their Wilson driver. Why? Is it brand snobbery?

I admit, I'm a fan of Wilson gear which started back in the late 80s and I reckon their gear is vastly under rated. It's good quality and very reasonable.

Oooh an AW post having a pick. Theres a novelty. Actually I played with the Wilson Fatshaft woods when they came out. Didn't think the fat shaft made a huge amount of difference although I spent a long time convincing myself it did. Not sure how you can judge my game without playing with me. I've said many times my scores aren't reflecting my ball striking but that is another issue. I thought it was a forum and so open to opinion. I don't like Wilson gear. Not snobbery - simple fact. I'm not a huge fan of Yonex, Nicklaus, Hogan either. I have tried a lot of clubs - mainly to satisfy my own curiosity but I've still a right to my opinion without expecting (well I do in your case) slating each and every time

Erm, I can - I've been on this forum for over two years and in all that time I've not seen a handicap reduction from you once. I'm judging from that that your game isn't very good.
Oh, and there's almost 20,000 posts detailing each and every round so yes, I can judge your game without ever having played with you.

Of course you are which is why I asked why you hated Wilson so much. I didn't say that you were wrong, I simply asked why the anti-Wilson stance.

Chill out geez, life's too short. :o

Wolfie,
The way i see it is. You have some money burning a hole in your pocket. Your friends are saying buy a driver, buy a putter. All shiney and new and bound to put 40 yards on your drives and hole loads more putts.... or will they? £400's worth or there abouts? I'd say look about, there's bargains to be had, if YOU really want new gear.
Some have mentioned the gap in your bag. Go try some fairway woods and hybrids. And again there's bargains to be had. No need for it to be TM or Titleist either. You can pick up last years models and the year before that for peanuts in comparison to what they originally cost.

Upgrade at your peril... i changed from a 7 / 8 year old driver that i used to pull out the bag and 8 out of 10 times hit straight down the middle to its younger erant cousin that now gets me into trouble.... not sure i can now go back as have since undergone a course of lessons as my scores went up and am currently leaving the driver at home....

Thinking about it did my scores go up because i changed my driver that has now meant 6 months of digging dirt and analysing everything?

O.K i'll be better in the long run but think that my driver change set off the whole chain of events.

Guy i know plays off 3 and his equipment is pretty old so the earlier post pointing this out made a lot of sense.

If i was you i'd be custom fitted for an investment putter, Scotty or Bettie that you can use for 30 years, buy some quality myjoys and a lindeburg top.

Improving your golf clubs will NOT improve your golf.

Taking the wife on holiday somewhere nice that may have a golf course nearby will not only improve your mood but earn you serious brownie points for future days off playing golf.
