Well it seems that he thinks that the Common People residents of Grenfell Tower should have used their common sense and ignored what they were being told by the Fire Fighters. Baffling/Inexplicable/Inexcusable comments? From a Cabinet Minister...
Maybe he just hasn't a clue about tower blocks...maybe he's never been vulnerable and had to rely upon the advice of the emergency services in a difficult or dangerous situation...maybe he hasn't read the report just released and the horrendous conditions in the tower and the single stairwell - dunno.

I’ve heard what he said and my take on it is that in the wake of the criticism of the Fire Brigade advice to stay put, if he was in a fire and was told to stay, he would now ignore that advice and try to leave the building.
Probably should have said it differently, but I’m sensing the professionally enraged are pouncing especially as Rees Mogg is an obvious target.

Dunno but if he just did one, instead being a complete plonk, I wouldn’t care about his privileged lifestyle.
Personally I think he should be de-selected as he has been a rather naughty boy.

Pretty much identical to my thoughts - having also watched the interview. JR-M actually handled that interview, on a tragic, so highly emotive topic, very well imo - and I'm certainly no fan of him!

Whether he was being aloof and insensitive, or just misspoke, as a senior cabinet member, let alone one entering a general election campaign, it was pretty stupid and probably proof he isn’t really front bench material.
