What made you join your golf club?

For me it was the welcoming nature of the members, along with a tough test on the course, but mainly the membership fee. No joing fees and £400 per year for under 30's, although knowing the head pro from school helped as I got 10% off so £360 per year for a full 7 day membership.

Was the best investment I have made this year!! Have loved every minute of it.

I'm at the same club as Dave so ditto what he said.

Also, 4 minutes drive from my front door, new enthusiastic pro who is working hard to get the course and facilities up to scratch as they have taken a bit of a knock in the last few years.

I'm at the same club as Homer, Hawkeye and Sundance.
Course is only 10 mins away, Great friendly bunch of members (If on your own, most members will invite you to join them). Biggest selling point for me is no booking tee times. If you finish work you can just roll up and tee off 1st or 10th and play as many holes as you want.
Oh, and a good pint is a big plus as well!!

Haha Dave, I'm not Jewish, I didn't realise my name came across as a Jewish name.

I absolutely adore Heaton Park and think it's probably one of the best courses around here but I don't think I would join as it is far too busy at weekends and there are no practice facilities. I live in Moston now (used to live near Bowker Vale metrolink station) so I was looking at Blackley,North Manchester and Brookdale, have you played many courses around here?

I'll have a look into Whitefield as it's probably only 15 minutes away from here and I've heard the pro there is top notch. If they can do a student deal under £300 it would be tempting.

I used to be a member at Whitefield when i lived over that way.
Its a very good layout with some of the best par 3s you'll find anywhere.
The only downside is it does'nt hold up to well in the winter.

If I lived there now I would probably join Stand as it has more of a Club feel to it and is much better in the winter.
Or Manchester (hopwood), which is by far the best course in Manchester.

There was a load of us who joined at the same time so they gave us a deal on membership, also it is about 20 mins away. I do have 3 golf courses very close by though, Burton Golf Club, Branston Golf Club and Craythorne golf club. At the moment i play at Breedon Priory, its not a bad course for the money though so cant complain.

Joined coz its 5 mins in the car, friends played there. Very friendly club, no pretentions of greatness. Typically of a links course, it drains quickly and rarely sees snow. And at less than £2 a pint and £4 in a taxi it's, er, very sociable till the wee small hours. Been there 25yrs and see no point in moving on.
