Not for me. If I open my 60 (6 degree) I can nip under the ball. With more bounce if I am not perfect with contact the club will bounce off the ground and zing.....thin shot through the green.

Exactly me…I have hit more horrific bladed thins with my fitted high bounce 55 than my low bounce 2nd hand random eBay buy 60 degree

Dear me, is there no way for the members to club togther and get the greens team to install a proper bunker or put more sand in?

A hole in the ground with lining and a sprinkle of sand sounds awful!
we already pay £1400 a year.

That’s the simplified explanation.
they are a bit more complicated than that.
but at its basis most bunkers are just holes in the ground with sand in.

We are just about to spend the best part of £800k to fix our bunker problems. 😳

I would say the linings are good for what they are supposed to do .
but the level of sand must be maintained to a set depth.
if it’s not then you are going to hit the lining with your club.
I would rip the lot out and start again, or just put more sand in!
not sure the GK knew just how much sand it needs to maintain properly.

Ours are just poorly constructed, we’ve had a proper course architect in to look at and redesign them. We are an exposed windy course so the sand blows out.
They will all be rebuilt to stop this happening. There are some being removed, and new ones added plus a lot of reshaping, sleepers and riveting going on too.

Thanks for the replies people.👍

Ive come to the conclusion that I don't think I need three wedges. The only reason was to fill in the 6 degree gap between PW and AW for full shots (my AW tends to go quite high and floaty) but I started using my PW more and taking distance off it rather than trying to hit a hard AW. In fact I started using my PW much than the AW more round the greens and my short game was much improved.

The reason I need them is because my new set only came to PW and although I can use the ones from my old set, I'll be selling those on at some point.

I think the Wilson Staff Model ones are likely as they're lovely looking and the price point is good. I'll replace the AW and then get the high toe version for the SW. That will give me a little more flexibility with it.

This new idea of having only two wedges - it'll never catch on though, will it?

Well, not unless manufacturers standardise the 9-iron to be in the range 46-48 degrees.
But that would be rolling backwards, which some find abhorrent.
It would also bring back the numbers 4 and 3, which some have decided are no good for them.

What difference does it make whether you call a club a 9 iron, 11 iron a wedge or Betty? You’ll still have Club with 48° ish of loft!

I agree.
I saw no need to change the correlation of numbering and lofts from 30 years ago, but that is what the manufacturers did.
I think he meant it doesn't matter what you call the club. My pitching wedge isn't a wedge, it's an iron. It's evolved from what a pitching wedge used to be and only the name remains!

800k

Jesus Christ! I'm in the wrong business! 800k for bunkers?!

Indeed!
There is a lot of work over 2 years including moving a lot of dirt and rebuilding parts of some greens where sleeper walls are starting to fail.

Whopping amount of money that though! No wonder our owners are just letting ours rot :ROFLMAO:

It's understandable why so many are filling in unnecessary bunkers now. Why wouldn't you, crazy prices o_O
I've never really understood the fixation on bunkers. They cost a lot to maintain and there are other things you can do that would cause problems that don't cost much money at all.....and basically no maintenance. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6700774

Currently my PW is 43, and I have specialist Cleveland RTX wedges at 46, 50, 54 & 58. I rarely use the 46.

I have just ordered a new set of irons and the GW is 48 and will then be looking at two more forgiving specialist wedges with our pro.
