Our best player plays off +1 and he is totally involved with his golf. He is in his mid 40's and invariably wins The Club Championship.

Additionally he plays for The County 6 times a year plus practice days. Also plays for the scratch team and there is a County Competition for a 'Green Jacket' played over 10 courses. Always ready to offer advice and it is a pleasure to watch his concentration when we are out with him. Practices almost every day and always takes 3/4 prizes at our Presentation Night.

How does your best player compare and is anyone on here The Number 1 in your Club?

I am the number 1 - hacker :)

lowest at mine is.... 7 h/c

the reason is its on an RAF camp so has a lot of forces members who are regularly posted. The rest of the members are mostly seniors who play for fun. Its nice cos there is no massive ego's and everyone has a chance in nett & gross comps.

lowest is back up to exactly 0.0 ! ive never played with himbut know he hits it a long way. ive played with a few of his usual playing parnters and they are low themselves. they tell me some of the things he can do with the golf ball and he is on another level to the rest of them.

seen him roll a few longs putts in. i hear hes getting bit pissed off with our greens and is considering moving to find a better roll.

No one is below 4 at our place. An ex pro joined on 0.8 a few years back and went up to 4 before leaving claiming the course was too difficult !!!. Its a hard course and our Daily Mail team handicaps vary between 4-8 and they are easily beating scratch golfers from other clubs. We have four or five juniors on 4-5 who all look very promising.

We had a +2 but he has just turned pro. I play regularly with a Scr and a 1 handicapper. The guy off Scr makes sure everyone knows how good he is, the 1 hcp is one of the nicest most unassuming guys you could ever meet. Works hard on his game, will def get down to scr at some point this year.

does this not show that handicap, although indicative of general ability does not a whole picture paint!

Imagine maintaining a 10 handicap round Woburn for example (sorry if thats not a good example but you get the gist)... would be off a lot less at other courses

I think so Gibbo. Im not a good player by any means but went to a much longer course than mine (6,500 yards I think) and shot 38 points(didnt play great) in bad conditions having never seen the course nor having a course planner. I suppose this is where SSS comes into play to show how one course is harder than another but obviously this number doesnt help with higher handicappers like ourselves?

Brian Soutar of Leven Golfing Society -3 and won the 2012 South African Amateur Championship and gets a place later this year in the South African Open.

Not wanting to be sexist, we have three ladies who play off scratch and 31 gents who are scratch or better, the lowest being +4.4 followed by a +3.6, +2.3 and +2.
