what "flips your lid"....

Cigarette butts on the ground and people who smash drivers all over the place and moan about the length of the rough :)

That's a good one. Played with a guy on Saturday, 22 h'capper who hit the ball all over the place. He spent most of the round moaning about his bad luck on losing balls in the rough. I didn't have the heart to tell him he ought to learn to hit it straighter, it's not even like the bad rough at our place is particularly in play.

Poor organisation! For example this weekend no-one knew what their tee off times were for 2nd round of club champs before the actual day as they hadn't done the draw or posted it up. Then theres the small matter of them not closing the course before comp so play was held up by green fees and swindles, and finally it was the fact no-one had thought to refill the machine on the range so there was no way anyone could warm up!....

It all comes under poor management and organisation... On the course do whatever you like because I'll either just block it out or ask you to refrain!

The only thing that annoys me when I play the game is people waiting on the fairway.

On a short par 4, I have no issue if there are players on the green. But when hitting into par 4's and 5's especailly some of the longer ones, they stand in the middle of the fairway waiting for the green ahead to clear with a mid iron in their hand

Now, I'm sorry, but If you are playing a 500+ yard par 5, a drive and a 7 iron for most players isn't going to get you there (Pieman and Swinger accepted :D ). When the green clears, they hit there shot, find themselves a full iron shot short of the green and then stand in the fairway discussing "How could I be that short???", then amble away to their ball.

Play your lay up and keep the course moving. Either that or pull your 3 wood and give it a proper chance.

That's he only thing that narks me on the course.

Gareth, I think it is only good manners to allow the game in front to enjoy each hole without balls from the following game thumping down at their back as they putt. A sure sign that they should go faster in the eyes of the following game.

I also wonder if this few minutes wait creates a gap in the following holes or do the well mannered game in front wait for the next green to clear before bombarding it thereby allowing your game to catch up?

The point is they are no where near hitting them or the green.Even if they hit a worldy of a mid iron, there is no way they are going to hit it 250 yards (Again, Swinger and Pieman accepted)

Look at it this way. If they are playing a 500 yards par 5. The hit an average drive at 230, they hit there 7 iron 160, that's 390 total. They are still 110'ish yards short of the green. I doubt the people putting out would even be aware the ball has landed behind them.

You see it all the time on tour where Pros lay up into par 5's while the other group is putting out so I see no reason why us mere mortals cannot follow suit.

Manners, as far as I'm concerned has nothing to do with it. It's people who stand 250 yards from a par 5 green with a mid iron in hand waiting for the green to clear, "just in case they get it there" who hold other people up. While very true they may create a gap between themselves and the group in front, the cause havoc for the groups behind.

Slow play, I think we all agree, is a curse of the game. If the chap has a 3 wood in hand, I could understand him waiting, but a mid iron  . Know your yardages, play your lay up, keep the course moving. Simple

Bossy women at away matches "we have to stand here/walk this way" etc etc etc. I sometimes wonder if it's playing mind games but if I get wound up in matchplay it's good for me! Last week there was a tee box that had the whites and reds quite close. The guys parked their bags at the tee as did I but oh no we had to walk around the hedge and then across the yellow tee box...

you have not taken enough water with you, your bottle is empty. walking up the 12th toward the green you eye a water fountain on the path toward 13! great you think, you get there and its dry... its like a kick in the balls.

Hahahaha love it

Drivers ( I could think of another description...) on motorways who insist on sticking in the middle lane at 68 mph......... You would not believe the influence this has on traffic jams and hold ups.... its been mentioned on air and over the TV so many times but thousands still do it!!...

Oh and bad golfing etiquette complete including most of what's been mentioned, golf snobs who refuse to accept change and progression and people who insist on wittering on about bollo* incessantly throughout the whole round and especially whilst your'e setting up to hit the ball.... Oh and smokers dumping their fag ends and cigar butts everywhere.....

Apparently being "mothered" on the course!

Last weekend was playing in a threeball with 2guys in a buggy, one of the 2 fellas seems to think he's my old dear - a couple of weeks ago it was "have you got a jumper? would you like one? it's going to get cold later!" - this weekend it was "are you alright carrying that bag? do you want to put it on the buggy?" came off the 18th tee (our 7th) and there was my golfbag on the seat in the buggy! If it was just the once I'd accept it as being courteous/friendly but repeatedly???? for funs sake I've said no please accept that as my final answer!

Wait until he's offering to clean your ball :o

No instruction on our course to indicate that players on the third fairway DO NOT have right of way over players on the second tee. The third, a par four, crosses the second, a par three. Now the third is one o' those "heart attack hill" things and is one hell of a trudge up. Why players on the second tee wave players up from the third tee baffles me. This then holds up play. To what degree? On Saturday there was a four ball making their way to the green and THREE four balls waiting on the tee.

On a more general note. Players on the green looking at each other going...is it you or is it me. This really gets on my nerves. FFS one of you step up and putt. Does it really matter who is actually further away when deciding who should putt next?
