Hit it well or hit it straight?

Golf can be basically broken down into just 2 categories, how we hit and where we hit it.

There's no point in driving the ball 300+ yards if you dont know where it's going and duffing it straight 20 yards isn't going to get the job done.

So what do you find the easiest, contact or direction?

I can hit it straight no problem. Hitting it well now that is another thing, I'm struggling with my ball contact at the moment. I know it should be much better.

Straight has to be easiest, it is for me any way.

P.S I don't buy the hitting it well but miles off target. For me, hitting it well combines contact and accuracy. I would never claim to be hitting it well if I was always playing my next shot out of the clag

Id have to say i hit it well fairly often.....
I must do anyway because of all the negative posts iv read about Ping i10 irons being harsh i have to say i dont feel it....
I must be finding the sweet spot on a frequent basis....

Hitting it straight...If you mean hitting your target Bob ....
Well that wouldnt be often....
Im either right or left...More often than not lately id have to say left.
But its coming round. :)

Depends on your definition of hitting it well. For me, it's the feel of the strike.

My theory on this sides with HRC too...
I think that if your striking the ball well then the direction will come over time...

You can argue that short and straight works but i still think that you have to be able to hit it at least a generous distance.
There is no point in boning a 4 iron and it scuttling 100 yards down the centre of the fairway if you had intended to hit it 170 or 180 yards...

Now for me if i strike that same club out of the middle but im 10 to 15 yards left or right of my target im happy....So long as im not knee deep in grass and trying to get up and down to save par.

But didn't you say some of your best ever strikes finish miles off target? I agree it depends on your definition but my comment was based on that claim. You can't have a great strike and play 3 off the tee surely?

I'll rephrase the question.
If you miss the green, is it normally because of a bad contact (duff, top, thin) or bad direction (missing left or right)

Now your talking Bob...
Definitely directional so...
And as i said in another post...My misses now are left maybe 9 times out of 10..

I guess it's subjective but I think you can.

You can tell when the ball's come right out of the middle of the club, but the face might be open or closed and the ball ends up way off target.
To me that's a good strike, although not a good shot.

As one of many high handicappers, I am often able to get what I class as good contact (within a few mm of sweetspot)

Which way the clubface or path is at the point of impact is another story. Now if you can come up with something as simple as the v-easy to help me sort this bob. I'll send you a blank check lol

But in all honesty, I can hit the ball well but not always straight, If I hold back to get it straighter I lose a good third of my distance. Maybe it is my tempo/rythem. Only time will tell.

2 choices. How we hit it and where we hit it????
(and you say these are thr two basic choices?
If you can sort both of these out you will soon be a scratch golfer.
Does this mean you only have to sort ou two basics to become a scratch golfer (lol)
i FIND THAT JUST MAKING IT FOR MY TEE OFF TIME SOMETIMES CAN BE HARD
