Started off life in Textiles - I was a Carding Engineer in a carpet yarn factory. Not many mills left nowadays, so I retrained as an electrician and now run my own business doing property maintenance.

Was that due to the decline in textiles you decided to retrain?

Yeah, I was made redundant around 2000, then went to work for Bombardier who were building and operating the Virgin Cross Country fleet at the time - a year later I got offered a job back in textiles in a mill in Bury, but hated a few aspects of the job - my boss being one of them. Given the decline of the industry, I decided it was time for a change, so set up my own business and did my electrical quals. I was offered a job teaching in the college when I was there studying, but wanted the freedom of being self employed - which I still love.

For last 15yrs was a PM for a global IT Services business, latterly doing networks and cloud and on-premise server/storage infrastructure new build and development for such as the BBC, UK health trusts and the company’s global service desk telephony networks.

It put a crust on the table and I did such a great job they gave me voluntary exit a couple of years back 😂

My most interesting jobs were way back as I worked in the defence industry, for twelve years having the very grand job title of Guidance, Control and Navigation Systems Engineer 🤫, and then for four years Defence Market Analyst - Land Systems🤫. Then decided I’d had enough of that sector and moved into CRM Systems for the NfP sector.🕺

Freelance Business Consultant. Specialise in Operational, Process and Customer Experience improvement.

Been doing that 12 years now after leaving Sky, where I was for 15 years.

For a few years I worked multiple client accounts but found that chasing the money was just hassle so now only deal with a max of two clients at any given time.

Over the years of working with different clients in different operating areas I’ve become a bit of a Jack of all as far as can cover many disciplines.

One thing I love about it is that my clients range from good old financial services right through to land registry, healthcare and everything in between. Love not being tied to one specific field or company.
