So today I had the builder and the carpenter on site and we were trying to see what was going on. They were adamant that they had left the flexi hose un-kinked. So we went thru the motions.
Slid down the top of the extractor
The flex was coming loose again. My kitchen fellow says that the installer had used duct tape but ideally should use silver foil tape as it sticks better than duct tape in this scenario. Though I struggle to see how someone can get enough surface to bond on.
Then pulled down the hose a bit, and managed to stick my hand into the hose towards the vent. Patted it down
It was all clear. This was a relief
Went up on the roof again and took off the mushroom cap.
Then we reattached and absolutely tighter the hose with the metal clamp.
Ran the extractor and it nearly took off.. The force at the outlet is unbelievable.
Now it works!!!

But i dont really know what actually fixed it. Was the duct loose, or did pulling it down a bit and patting it down fixed it. No idea but going to take credit for it.

I suspect the flexible hose has too much excess and was able to double up on itself.

That is the most likely scenario. My builder was saying they left some extra and the fitter who started a week later or so may not have pulled hard enough.

Anyways hopefully I don’t have to do it again. It seems to be a bit quieter too

Whoever installed that is a cowboy.

The outlet on the roof won’t have enough open area to let the required amount of air through.

What is likely happening is the flex duct is popping off due to too much pressure.

You really need rigid ductwork and a more suitable exterior outlet.

The recommended connector for the hood is 150 but our builder put 250, so they put a connector that stepped the flexi from 250 to 150..

I think what probably fixed it was that i pulled some flexi down the opening and also patted it down. As @Bunkermagnet said, the flexi might have coiled on itself and blocking. Now it seems to be free flowing. Fingers crossed.

Also realised how much oil the Westin filter traps. They recommend putting it in the dishwasher every 2 weeks. I cleaned it last week and cleaned again today. A clean filter seems to make it run quieter too!!
