What a round.... Ended in buffer

1st monthly medal of the year today.

Arrived as normal about an hour before tee, hit 20/30 balls and had a chip and a putt.
I won't bore you with a hole by hole but
Playing off 5

Started bogey, triple, bogey, bogey. Buffer (5+1 ) gone in 4 holes and couldn't hit the ball.

Then suddenly birdie the 5th and played the remaining 14 holes in level par ( 2 doubles + 4 birds ) to finish net 73 and in the buffer with a 7 on the card ( that will be rounded to a 6 )

It's a funny old game

Nice shooting. My round was similar, took a while to warm up and had three blobs in the first five holes, but ended up scoring 35. For those 3 holes and a couple of lipped putts it would have been a decent round.
Changing topic slightly, how is your buffer worked out, how close to your handicap do you need to be to get inside it?

Cat 1 - 1 shot
Cat 2 - 2 shots
Cat 3 - 3 shots
Cat 4 - 4 shots

sounds like nerves or trying too hard initially, then once the 'pressure was off' and the score was gone, you relaxed and played the way you can.

Very common with single fig players, allegedly

I don't get nervous etc.
I am the type of player that rocks up, hits it round, has a drink and goes home.
Golf is my hobby not my career so other than personal pride it doesn't bother me whether I shoot high or low really.
Think it was just one of them days.
