what a disaster with the wedge

its honestly one of my best clubs.

i am in ireland playing my old home course and ive had no lob wedge for 2 rounds. i am leaking shots. my nephew is sorting my out with one for our game at galgorm tomoro. thank god.

alot of people fear 60 degree wedges. they are a serious weapon once you get to grips with it.
Hope the weather isn't as bad as forecast, courses over here finally starting to dry out. Gal form is a great track but not so nice in a rubbish day

As Homer says, the first mistake is carrying a 64' wedge, the 2nd was trying to hit a wedge with a full swing. IMHO, you don't need a 64' wedge, I'm not sure if any amateurs do TBH. There are far safer and more effective ways of hitting short pitches than going all hollywood on it.

I put a 64 wedge into my bag a couple of months ago... it lasted one round and came out again. I've just pulled my 60 out as well, as it was just dead weight in the bag, as I never used it and found my 9i, PW and SW were all I needed from 120yds and in.

Just back from watching the pros at walton heath.

greens were firm and fast.

I never saw a single approach from the fairway from under 100yds being chucked up in the air. All of them are hit low and under control. It's a real education - ball first, then divot.

So don't think of the 64deg as the 'hollywood' shot. Really good players just don't seem to use it. It's more of a 'hackers who want to think they're good' shot ;)

Walton Heath is the sort of course where low approaches work very well.

I had a Cleveland 64 for a couple of months. Fun club, but found I used it twice in a month - and from virtually the same place both times. Waste of a club imo, though I've seen a few Donnay & Dunlop ones that are the most (and best) used in some folk's bags!

I swing my drive smooth and swung through well to a nice finish but (as often happens) lost sight of my ball. "Can you see my ball?" I queried my playing partners who it soon realised were laughing their asses of! I'd hit the tee sweet took the driver right under the ball which was now sitting nicely where I'd teed up!

well today i had an approach shoot onto the green and decided to use a 64 degree wedge to approach the green as nothing was sticking on the green. i gave it a full swing full committed, hit it on the blade to the club and hit it 150 yards past the green down the wrong fairway onto the tee box of the previous hole nearly hitting people standing. Felt like a total idiot to say the least. nobody said anything but it was so funny. that club is staying in the house forever.. Anyone else done something like this please tell the story

There's a moral to this story... :D

I played Wychwood Park at the weekend. After finding a bunker on a par 4 and having to wedge out I left myself a 3/4 58* wedge to a green that sits quite a bit above the fairway.

I got way too quick at transition an bladed it straight to the back of the green. The only saving grace was the green ran uphill to the back slowing the ball dramatically.

Luckily managed to lag the putt to a couple of inches and tapped in for bogey.

Garryinderry how was galgorm? weather wasn't as bad as forecast.

we were driving through dungiven at 9 when we got a phone call saying the course was closed but they might open at 12.30.

we pulled in and discussed our options. we rang moyola park and they said we could get out at 9.50.

we headed straight there and the course was in good nick considering the rain last night. greens great and it didnt rain the whole round.

just a pity i never got to glagorm :(
