well today i had an approach shoot onto the green and decided to use a 64 degree wedge to approach the green as nothing was sticking on the green. i gave it a full swing full committed, hit it on the blade to the club and hit it 150 yards past the green down the wrong fairway onto the tee box of the previous hole nearly hitting people standing. Felt like a total idiot to say the least. nobody said anything but it was so funny. that club is staying in the house forever.. Anyone else done something like this please tell the story

I managed to scuff the ball onto the green with a 64 degree wedge whilst taking a practice swing. I holed the putt for par.

Best approach shot I have ever hit.....

Was there a reason you didn't pitch and run it? I use a 60 opened up for flop shots but that involves an early wrist hinge, couldn't imagine wanting or needing to hit a 64 full. I've bladed plenty of other clubs though ;)

Sorry but I think a 64 degree is unnecessary and just makes it harder. Nothing that a 58 or 60 can't do. I have always found a 60 actually costs me more shots than it saves so I've ditcherd it and the 58 does all I need

i always try hollywood shoots when practice rounds. that 64 degree wedge is never ever ever like forever coming on the course again with me. forgot to mention it put a great big slash in a brand new pro v1x.... i actually threw the club in the trees after that shoot but when i was doing the walk of shame onto the other tee to play my next shoot my mate decided to recover the club, i was happy to leave it there

Im not a fan of pitch and run, when i started playing i wanted to try my best to learn to pitch green and stop it when possible.

I shanked a ball into a steel post at the driving range and it rebounded straight back, bounced off the steel roof and out in to the car park......

I use my 60 deg quite a lot where I want high flops that stop up. I seldom use it for an approach shot off the fairway as the chances of a thin are high when off a close lie, I prefer a fluffy lie for these shots. I do notice very few people I play with will play a lob with the face held open, for me it is a great shot to be competent with.

It is....but only if you have trouble to go over. Much safer to play a standard pitch or a bump and run whenever possible. Or even a putt if you are on a nice tight fairway

im getting a low bounce vokey 60-04. i like to open the clubface and i cant do that with my md on a tight lie as it has 8 degrees of bounce.

Is the right answer..........I've not seen a player above 8 or 9 hc who can use a 60 degree wedge properly. In fact, I've not seen many cat 1 players who can use one properly.

I played a matchplay at the weekend vs a 28 handicapper (gave him 23 shots!) and I swear he thought he was Mickelson! Must have used his 60degree opened right up at least 50 times (no exaggeration)... Basically every shot inside 100 yards, and sometimes that was 5 a hole! I even tried to talk him out of it but he insisted he could do it....I won 8&5.

I have a 58 basically for bunkers, 1/2 - 3/4 for 60-75 yards and for the odd time I'm short sided or need to get over something, everything else inside 100 i knockdown or bump and run and find it rarely causes me headaches.

I have played with a +2 player who was amazing with his 60degree but he has been the only guy I have ever played with that was consistent with it and not just the 1 in 10 wonder shot show player.

its honestly one of my best clubs.

i am in ireland playing my old home course and ive had no lob wedge for 2 rounds. i am leaking shots. my nephew is sorting my out with one for our game at galgorm tomoro. thank god.

alot of people fear 60 degree wedges. they are a serious weapon once you get to grips with it.

I have an old 64 wedge but only use it to come out of the sand, works a treat for that.

Have tired the flop shot with it a couple of times, first time worked a dream, walked round thinking I was big Phil, second time thinned it across the green, at speed and it rolled a good 100+ yards it to the pond I had just come over.
