Hello all, i played in our monthly medal today, qualifier. I shot my best ever round and broke 90 in a medal :D, came second, and recieved a 0.9 cut. I should be happy, but i lost by 6 shots, and on our par 3 2nd, i shot a 12!!!! Thats right, a 12! I just lost it and stuck 2 OOB and topped 2 into bushes. See, even if i had got a 6, i would have shot the same as the winner and i could of won as i shot the best back nine i have ever done of 6 over gross. Oh well, atleast I'm nearly low enough to make it into our tolly team. How'd you all play today?

hahah, it is a tough hole but i felt ashamed when i cam second with a 12. Banditoo was said a bit :P yeah, atleast i know that i am capable of hitting good scores though

You have those holes and you look back and go... "if only"

I shot 85 with three trebles on the card, one on a par 3... Like you, when I can cut out the really bad holes I could score well. I seem to know how to turn a hole with a bad shot into a bogey but sometimes I just get myself into a silly place and lose lots of shots!

Yeah, my thoughts afterwords were, ' if only it wasn't for the 12'

Take the positives and forget the bad hole. Yes it was a horror especially on a par 3 but it happens and you must have played the other 17 brilliantly. If nothing it shows decent mental strength not to let it affect you for the next few holes. You know its in there so keep the form going, cut out the errors and a win will come.

Well played mate taking that 12 into account you had an amazing round.

Our first "official" medal today net -2 and I played horrifically 3x4 putts... Theres always next month

you fairly got your act together after that! fair play big man! forget about that par 3. just another hole in history. makes for a good story too.

Well played nice little cut and a podium finish despite a mare of a hole is quite an achievement.
Make that 12 a par and is not 90 your threatening it's 80!
Well played.

Well played - but the maths intrigues me. Playing off 20, you broke 90 gross, so, assuming 89 gross, you were nett 69. Assuming the disastrous par 3 was not a 2-stroke hole for you, that would be reduced to 6 for handicap purposes, leaving you with a nett 63 for handicap purposes. From that, I deduce CSS was 66 for your 0.9 chop. Have I got it right?

What course do you play?

Well played MP. Are you sure it's only a 0.9 cut? If you broke 90 with a 12 on a par 3 that would be rounded down to Nett double for h'cap purposes so a 6. That means for h'cap you need to take 6 off your gross score. Without knowing Par\CSS\SSS i'd still reckon 0.9 sounds a bit light.

Me, I scored 22 points in a bounce game but I'm bizarrely really happy. The front 9 was shocking, 6 points and thinking too much following my lessons. One of the guys I was playing with said he could see I was thinking about my swing and that I was taking so much longer than normal over my shots. I decided to try to speed it up a bit and after a couple of holes of the back 9 I started hitting the ball really well, there was a definite improvement in my ball striking. But for a shoddy short game and an OB on 17 I could have come home well under h'cap. The score was crap but I saw enough to be happy with how things are going.

I play at beccles golf club, not big at all. Anyhow, i don't know the maths but i have been given a 0.9 cut for definate

Played at my new course today with a new bunch I was introduced to, birdied the 1st and abysmal for 17 holes, only got another 2 pars. Was depressed afterwards. Onwards and upwards tho as it was my first 18 since September and a big jump from parkland to links

I couldn't agree more. I've seen people break clubs and rip up score cards after a disaster hole. Well done for keeping your head and carrying on. One shot at a time and you never know what might happen!

Well played mate and congrats on breaking 90 with your PB.

I hit gross 90 today (11 temps on ) 4 under for my hcap but was dissapointed with 8/9 shots and missed couple of easy putts.

On the PLUS side hit my 1st EVER "technical " EAGLE........calling it that because it was on a temp and way short of normal green, but just had to knock it in with my brand new Scotty Cameron Newport 2 black putter.

Well played. My horror hole during a medal was a 13 on a par 4 and I also ended up being six behind the winner. You just chalk it up to experience.
