It's unlikely you have actually gained 2lbs of fat (although not impossible!) rather than you're stuffed full of carbs and therefore holding a lot of water as your body processes it. Back on the wagon and next week WILL be a different story

I thought that was the wrong way around... shouldn't you have carbs before the gym for energy then protein after to help the muscles recover?

Spot on SB.

When dieting limiting carbs is a good idea, but dropping them completley is a bad , bad idea.

Ideally you should be timing your carbs to when you'll need energy most. Breakfast being one, pre exercise another, with a small amount post exercise (along with protein). If you don't exercise, spread them out evenly over the day, limiting consumption after 7pm.

If you train after 7pm, carbs are still fine pre-workout.

And............... What does everyone have against bread

In addition.

Brendy are you sure you have your calories right? The reason I ask is what you are eating is less than 7 slices of bread!! That level of calories is dangerously low.

When we were talking about BMR in the other thread, this is the amount of calories your body need to perfom it basic bodily functions (Renal fuction, digestion, nerve transmissions, conciousness etc) in a healthy, efficient manor. Not giving your body what it needs to perform basic functions is only going to impact on these functions.

Just keeping your self in a calorie deficit will force your body to lose weight in a sustainale, safe manor, it just takes a little longer, thats all.

Not having a pop fella. I just thought I'd echo Amanda and point out the possible repercussions.

Gareth, I think I am fairly accurate, as far as reasonable anyway, ie what is on the packets then trying to get a ballpark figure on anything made up and cooked from several ingredients. Amanda has very kindly offered to look at my diet and see if there are any recommendations.
It is really funny in that I dont feel like I am hungry (bar just before dinner) and the little bits of fruit etc in between main meals keeps me ticking over. The first couple of days I was almost concentrating on eating punctually but now after 10 days it is just another part of my day. I do miss bread/toast but the rest I could live without now.
I wont be living without it though forever, I know that, but I do want to get as good a start as possible then introduce it back in slowly. You ask why specifically bread, well with me I eat too much of the stuff. I estimate around 4+ slices per day every day and have found that anything doughy seems to sit in me for days so to keep things moving I am doing without for a while, the amount of cals etc doesnt help when I am trying to do a calorie controlled diet. Again though, I am definitely not starving myself in the traditional sense of the word, I take on plenty of fruit/veg/fluids and if it turns out I am lacking in iron or anything, I intend to take supplements.

The reason I singled out bread Brendy (It was not aimed at you BTW, just a general questions based on comments) is because, everyone seems to be avoiding it. I personally eat between 6 and 8 slices of bread a day, pretty much every day. 3 breakfast, 3 lunch, 2 with dinner (the latter being meal dependant). To those avoiding bread, do you also aviod yoghurt, milk, fruits, veg, porridge etc? These are all carbs too.

Like I said in previos threads. The human body doesn't understand bread, steak , pasta (Basically food and drink), It only understands what it needs as per what it uses. Timing your carbs, specifically bread to the times your body needs them most means you CAN eat bread AND lose weight.

As long as you keep your body at a deficit level of calories, you WILL lose weight.

I only take a little bit of milk with coffee and porridge in the morning, plenty of fruit/veg. I cant speak for anyone else, I am not avoiding bread as it is mainly carbs, more because it sits in me for ages and leaves me a little bloated.

If you feel like that with it Brendy, you're doing absolutley the right thing. Do you know if you have an intolerance to bread or it's ingredients?

I dont think so Gareth, never came out with any kind of negative symptoms, pizza does exactly the same and as much as I love Dominos, I treat them like once a month treats.
