One of the main online shops had an offer recently for a set of 3 Adams wedges for £99. Might be worth a shot to keep the expense down?

Im going to be a bit controversial and say, stick with vokeys as they are the best in the market and have more loft and bounce options than most.

You can't really say something like that, golf equipment is far too personnal. I wouldn't touch Vokeys with a barge pole, they just don't work for me.

I would suggest the OP tries out wedges from.......

Mizuno
Cleveland
Callaway
MD
Taylormade
and yes..... Vokey!

See which works best for you then look around for the best deal. And take into account the comment about the type of course you play the most. Links/heathland need less bounce, more on a parkland course.

As another option consider changing your specialist gap wedge for an R11 51 degree to match the rest of your irons and get new 56/60.
I have Cleveland went back to them after a failed venture with TM z tp's. I did consider vokeys but the cg15 sat better to my eye,

I am changing to 52/58 combo in the new year as I find having 3 wedges gives me too many options and I invariably take the wrong one.

I had the GW in my G10's and found it easier to hit than a 'specialist' gap wedge also had the sw but that was too clunky!

How come we can try drivers/irons at the range but rarely are wedges available to try

But now looking at my wedges, they seem tired and playing every week I think I could do with some new grooves.

Love to know your thoughts,
Thanks guys

There's no suggestion that you don't get on with these wedges so I would suggest you get them refurbished/reconditioned/whatever and continue to enjoy them. I will probably be doing my Callaway's this weekend and they will look great for a month or so :) Having pretty complete workshop facilities helps.

The thing about new groves is that they only last a couple of weeks, especially if you have a couple of sessions at the range; then you are back where you started

I'm sure someone can suggest a renovation company?

I'd suggest you take another look at the current wedges and consider whether they are actually 'worn' or merely discoloured. It's also possible to get a tool that will 'sharpen' the grooves - a little tough on the fingers in my experience, but could be £10-12 well spent.

If you really are set on getting new wedges, I believe it's worthwhile to line up a Pro for a wedge fitting. He/She will be able to provide a number of wedges with different bounces or grinds that will suit your particular style. Styles can vary hugely and are categorised by misses and divots (corresponding to different swing characteristics), Names like Digger/Driver, Sweeper/Slider (me) or Driver/Slider exist and the type of wedges that are best suited to that style - and the normal turf conditions - vary according to the style.

Edit: Gad, did I take that long to post. Duncan beat me to querying your 'need' - and I'll reinforce our view. Could get some brownie points by forgoing an 'upgrade' too.

Nothing to do with too many options from having 3 wedges Gibbo. It is more like you have seen a pair of Callaway wedges going cheap on Ebay to match your X-forged and you just can't help yourself..........

I'm going to drop my 60° in favour of a 3 iron. I don't know if it'll work but I don't think that I need 3 wedges especially in the winter.

For recommendations, I had an MD Superstrong wedge a while ago and it was superb. I'd probably have a set of them now if I didn't get my current Pings for a bargain £50 for the 3

Just read through your opening thread again. Looking at PW loft that is very strong, my 9i is only 44*. I only carry a 54 and 60 as my PW is 48, but going on that you probably do need to stick with your 4 wedge combination. Your current set up does appear to leave a big gap between your 45 PW and 52 GW. It may be worth you looking into a 50, 54 and 58 set up.

Just been looking at Direct Golf. You can get that wedge setup in the Mizzy MP T11 and Cleveleand CG16 for £180. Might be worth a look at as they will fall more into your budget than Vokeys will.

I only carry a PW and SW, SW is a Cleveland CG15 and it's a great wedge no complaints from it at all and will possible add a 52* also

Clubhouse golf have them for £45 just now too and at that price are a bargain but get out and see what suits you and even play about with other lofts too

If you're really savvy you could even get ones cheaper than that

My PW is 46, and I have a 52 and 58. I've tinkered with PW, 52, 56 and 60 but the 60 cost too many shots and the 56 wasn't ideal for my bunker play. To be honest these days there are many good wedges out there and it really depends on what fits your eye and what sort of weight you like. Some like the Cally X series are rather heavy (in my hands at least). I like the TM RAC wedges and AG are doing them for £50 odd quid
