Waterproof shoes

I realise it's summer and this is a non-topical question, but I want to prepare for the winter...

I'm sick and tired of golf shoes that leak. The first pair I ever bought about 15 years ago were fantastic - absolutely bone dry. But they wore out and since then every pair has lasted about a year before starting to leak. Even my Footjoy winter boots started leaking after about 366 days (how convenient for their warranty department :angry. Dubbin works to an extent - but it only seems to last for 1 round, and I can't face applying it every time I play. So for now I use sealskins.

Anyone had any sucess with golf shoes that are properly waterproof and don't start leaking before they've otherwise worn out?

The best way to ensure dry feet is to invest in a pair of sealskinz waterproof socks. They will cost you about £27 and worth every penny! :thup:

Never had a problem with Eccos! At least not until creasing of upper turned into a hole (after several years).

I had Nike Lunar control 2s that lasted quite well and kept waterproof (maybe 2 years), but the smell from wearing them solidly over winter was the final straw.....anything else I've had has never been properly waterproof for a prolonged period.

the life of my shoes does appear to be between 1 and 1.5 years.....I've just kind of accepted that.

Come to think of it I only got rid of my lunar controls as I couldn't get the studs out to change them.

Maybe I will have to do the same. It just annoys me that they start leaking before they wear out in any other way.

Ive a couple of pairs of the Ecco Gortex. both completely waterproof into the 2nd year.

I've got a pair of Ecco Hydromax. They also leak. Not as bad as the Footjoy AQLs that preceded them, but still enough to be annoying.

Must add that I've always gone for the Goretex ones! Hydromax merely 'makes leather highly water repellent' as opposed to waterproof!

I had a pair of Footjoy Greenjoys for about 3 years that were great. When they died I got another pair that lasted 8 months before leaking. I've since had another pair of Footjoys, AQL, and 3 x Stuburt shoes (3 becasue they all leaked and kept getting replaced), none of which lasted past a year before they leaked. I'm now on a pair of Puma shoes, via Clubhouse, which came with a 2 year guarantee. My thinking there is if they only last 18 months before leaking at least I'll get a replacement pair.

In summary, perhaps none of them do what they are supposed to. A bit poor really. Maybe we all should not worry about the shoes and just buy these magic socks. It just seems an awful lot to pay for socks, no matter how magical they are.

Hydromax is rubbish, so I wear them to work.
The Ecco goretex ones are great, but expensive, so I only have two pairs.

I think my Nike lunar controls are OK, but they are nearing replacement any way.

My Footjoy boots were well over a year old and replaced without problem when they started to leak.

Footjoy dryjoys my choice. Never had any issues with them. I have some that are seven years old that are just starting to let water in but with Sealskin socks it's not an issue

I've used sealskinz in the past. I'm not sure that they're a panacea.

Depending on how your feet work, they can be a bit sweaty and get very hot. Not for all, though I'm sure they are fine for some.

Bearing in mind that most golf shoes have quite a low cut heel, have a normal tongue and lace holes etc, it is pretty tough to make something 100% waterproof. If your socks get wet (unless you wear gaiters, walking in wet rough with overtrousers on makes your socks wet), it eventually wicks down to your feet.

Rather like waterproof jackets, 100% waterproofness often comes with trade offs. Many walkers/trail runners accept that their feet will get wet and then work on making sure that their socks cope as well as possible and that their shoes have good breathability and are able to dry quickly to minimize the length of time feet stay wet and make them more usable (and less smally) the next day.

I wore seal skinz in Italy while cycling. They were OK for about half an hour, and then filled up with water like a wet suit. Not that impressed. Warm, but wet. Maybe they are better with trousers.

I'm using Puma Faas Xlite. I've been playing golf multiple times a week for 20 years and have tried seemingly countless pairs of golf shoes. These are the best that I've tried so far. They're extremely comfortable and light. In fact, they're so lightweight that I was worried they wouldn't be able to handle walking 18 holes, but I wore them during my round yesterday on a fairly up and down course and they did great.

I got a pair of waterproof socks and they are great - very warm and feet bone dry.
They cost about £26 and are called dexshell thermlite.

Try Adidas they come with a 2 year waterproof guarantee. Previously had a pair of adipures and they were fantastic, until they wore out !
Have now just bought a pair of Tour 360 Boost and the cheaper Tour 360 BOA. Both have been straight out of the box comfort despite some of the reviews I read about Tour 360 Boost.
Should they not last near 2 years I'll take em back 👍

I have had lots of pairs of Footjoy Dryjoy Tours as I love the fit but unfortunately they don't do what it says on the tin!

Trying some Stubert Boots this winter - so far, so good.

Dryjoys used to be excellent, not sure the quality is the same these days.

I had a brand new pair of DNAs in the cupboard, used them last week... I might as well have been bare foot! Back they went to the shop! Swapped for Dryjoy Tour, lets see how they go!
