No exaggeration.
Footjoy x2 leaked slightly after about 10 rounds.
Puma x2 probably about the same.
Adidas S2G totally sodden after 2 rounds.
Adidas winter boots slight water ingress after 4 rounds.
The Ecco shoes I've tried on in a shop were a bit too padded for my liking, but maybe I'll give the GTX versions a go next.

My adidas winter boots are totally waterproof after 2 winters and my adidas EQT are still waterproof after 18 months.

Try and find shoes with an attached tongue. I learned with the puma cell fusions that a tongue which is connected to the sides of the shoe will really improve how effective the shoe is at repelling water.
Some Skechers have this and are brilliant for keeping almost all the water out.
Nothing is completely waterproof unless there's a cover over the laces or zips and the fit is really snug around the ankle. And even then, water finds a way!

I have some Underarmour shoes that I got as a gift and I've put my foot literally underwater (accidentally) and my socks stayed dry, so I'll count them as a win!

I have a pair of Stromberg waterproof spikeless shoes - can’t recall the exact name of them. They are ridiculously comfortable and by far the most waterproof shoes I have owned in years.

Worth every penny of the very reasonable price.
