Got soaked again today so finally decided I need a new lightweight waterproof jacket that can be used in summer and winter. Sure there will be lots of people suggesting Galvin Green but out of my price league have £100 max to spend rather less if possible... also want it to be plain black / blue / grey with no garish colours so I can wear it off the course..

Any suggestions / recommendations

Mizuno waterproofs - me and the old man have got them and they outdo sunderland, pro-quip jackets we have had in the past.

At this time of year, there should be some clearance bargains to be had.

I'd Golf Depot can be awkward to deal with - for returns/not quite rights etc - so make sure you get the correct size (varying between brands) if you deal with them.

Anything Goretex (or equivalent) should be effective and Pac-Lite versions seem to be the style you are looking for.

My advice would be to 'not panic' and check out all the popular outlets, both shop and internet, for their offers.

If you are not fussed with a brand consider an outdoor shop for a gore tex paclite jacket, I have an ACG jacket (Nike) and it cost me just £60 from Go Outdoors and it was an absolute steal and it does the job perfectly well.

Why not go down the SH route, I've just picked up a lovely Galvin Jacket off GM member Golfboysatty for £80. It looks to be in great condition he's prob got a new one so he's shifting his old one. There are a few on Ebay. TBH if you want to stay dry there is only GG that is up to the job in the weather we have had today.

Depends what you want to spend but as previously mentioned you could pick up a Sunice goretex jacket for less than a ton off County golf and will do well to get better value than that

What utter rubbish, plenty other brands stuff will keep you dry in these conditions

I've a Sunice Goretex Paclite and it's never let me down. Picked it up for £75 from the European Tour website last year.

They have some good stuff on there at great prices if you look at the right time.

That's sure to start an argument.

It did! And I agree. Plenty of brands are fine waterproofs. GG necks tend to let water in for me - and I'm not going to spend £45 for one of their hats! Cross elasticated necks work much better for me. GG Trou are way over the top, pricewise, too. That said, I've had my GG Jacket and Trou for almost 10years and it's performed pretty well.

Living on the Pennines the most used piece of gear are the waterproofs. The Mizuno Impermalite are brilliant and you get a 5 year warranty and the other one that I use are the Adidas Climaproof Storm. Have played in some absolutely rank weather and both brands have held up 100%.
