Theyre available at £100 in shops and £70/80 on ebay currently, just pointing out that Tashys walking jackets arent that much cheaper than all golf ones :)

But is that the point, cheap. I have got a galvin green jacket that I cannot wait to get rid of. Every time I wear it I sweat like a pig in it. I was reliably informed by the golfing fraternity on here. It was the wrong type of jacket. Eh, £270 out of pocket and it's the wrong type. Now here's a thought getting away from price a minute coz this thread is about coats and not the cost of. I bought my coat from a mountaineering, walking, outdoor shop. The staff know what there selling. There not a golf shop that just sells this seasons styles, they know there products. The coat was reduced from £370 to £100. Apparantly it was not a popular colour. My GG coat has two useless pockets. This has numerous. It has a hood that folds into the neck, the hood has a peak on it that will help with wearing glasses in rain. The jacket folds into the hood. It is lightweight. For me it is a steal

Sounds like you bought a lined GG jacket, the paclite ones far better imo as you can there wear whatever layers you need underneath if its cold but can also wear over a polo

As for hoods and pockets, yes I want them on a walking jacket, dont want them when Im playing golf though!

I have a Goretex golf jacket and a Goretex walking jacket, the latter I couldnt even think of playing golf in!

You said "Just kinda emphasises to me that the difference between walking and golf jackets re price is stupid" based on a £100 Goretex walking jacket

Does the price of one coat prove a point. is Goretex the only waterproof membrane out there. This topic started 2 weeks ago. Why not comment 2 weeks ago that adidas had a £60 Goretex coat, or why did no one else. Hmmm, because they were not available. My point, and it has not changed because 1 coat is cheaper at £60 rather than £100 is that when it comes to paying out for golf jackets. Us golfers pay over the odds for coats as against equivalent quality products made out of the same materials that walkers do.

Fundy you have emphasised what I said, when I paid £200 plus for my coat. The shop never said you have to wear this underneath or you are limited in what you can wear. They never knew the product they were selling. I initially never bought the coat in Byron bay because they didn't have a Goretex coat in my size which was £5 cheaper than the one I eventually bought. I tried the Goretex on in Brisbane it was far to heavy not ideal at all. Re the pockets especially the ones near the waist. You don't even know they are there. I have a Jack wolfskin 3 in 1 coat that cost me £140, nigh on half the price of my GG that DS a better job in keeping me dry.

Re the op, if you don't have a coat yet. £60 for the adidas is an excellent price if the coat ticks all boxes for you.

I think sports gear is fairly specialised in what range of movement they support. I have a really expensive Gortex running jacket (which unfortunately doesn't fit at this point in time) where I can move my arms forward and backward, but I don't think it would give me the movement necessary for a golf swing. I used to have an Assos cycle jacket which was very comfortable sitting on a bike hunched over a handle bar, but really uncomfortable just standing in.

Golf has a very specialised range of movement, if one needs the 'perfect' golf jacket it is unlikely that one from another sport does the job as well as it should.

The adidas website do the occasional 50% off their current sale items, that is how I bought my goretex jackets (bought 2, couldn't resist), they cost me approx £140. It is bound to happen again soon as it is coming up to the black friday sale season.

Cheers, John

That's how I got mine 2-3 years ago.
