Waterproof jacket and trousers recommendations

from a recommendation somewhere here the footjoy hydrolite stuff is good, but I found in strong rain I get wet after 10 holes or so, but perfect for a shower. The pro in the shop recommended sunderland stuff which I will look at next.

I was never really one to enjoy the full wet suit experience when playing golf.

Settled on the waterproof gilet from Nike. Keeps the arms free to swing.

I have the black and olive version. Picked them up when outlets were selling them for 65 quid. Game changer. 😀

I used to have a Nike waterproof jacket with detachable sleeves. They zipped off so your arms were free to swing.

Great idea, until you decided the rain was too heavy and you wanted to put the sleeves back on. Felt like Houdini trying to zip on a sleeve in the rain while carrying a golf bag and umbrella.

Haha im not a fan of carrying if there's a chance of rain. Always like to nip back under the brolly on the trolly.

Sunderland Dolphin Tour are great and you can get jacket and trousers for £160, which fits your budget?

I have the trousers so can absolutely vouch for how good they are. I assume the top will be similarly good.

They both come with a lifetime waterproof guarantee 🤩

I went for a Sunderland jacket in the end (haven’t bought trousers yet).

Question now is, what do you generally use to wash these? The lifetime guarantee requires you to follow the care instructions, part of which state not to use harsh detergents. Is normal washing powder ok?

Can't remember, I've only washed my waterproof jacket once in five years I think. :ROFLMAO:

Definitely non-bio and no fabric conditioner.
I use nikwax tech wash and their re-proofer for all my golf outer wear.

This is true, no plans to wash it any time soon!

Yeh, I saw the thing about no fabric conditioner, I’ll make sure we use non bio, thanks.

I've used soda crystals previously, basically anything that is non bio, as others have said. You can buy a bag of these really cheaply. Only use a small amount. After washing, I let it dry naturally, doesn't have to be fully dry, and then put it in the tumble dryer on its lowest setting. Never had an issue yet.

I swear by Nikwax stuff which one washes and one re proofs.
The trousers I wash a lot more that the jacket as they get dirtier quicker.

When my Proquip jacket was no longer waterproof after many years, I plumped for a Sunderland because they have a lifetime waterproof guarantee.
What I will say is that it feels thicker than the Proquip and restricts movement a bit more.

I just use a damp cloth/sponge and wipe off the worst of the mud. Never needed to put waterproofs in the washing machine.
Yeuch!
Are you happy hitting the course with much on your trousers? If mine ever get muddy I would wash them. My GG trousers have probably been washed 20 times (nikwax) and are fine.

Am the same. Must have washed my trousers 20 times. However I found a gallon of nikwax wash with a cracked cap in a walking shop for sale at £5 😁👍

Thankfully our course has done a lot of work in the past few years and improved drainage and put paths in so doesn't get that muddy nowadays. Couple that with me being a bit of a fair weather golfer, then I don't need to wash them.

As others have already mentioned NikWax, I use it for all my work Goretex gear
and golf waterproofs. Everything comes out perfectly clean and re-proofed. My stuff takes a battering and I tend to wear the trousers a layer of clothing rather than an overlayer so it also keeps it fresh in other ways to 😂
