....once the wife fell asleep on the sofa.

John Daly on a 171yd par 3 and he hit an 8 iron 20 feet from the pin! He 3 putted and ended up bogeying the hole, but an 8 iron 170yds  I know he has a reputation for it but how the hell does he hit the ball so far?

Sergio didn't look happy all night.

That rescue shot that hit the tree and went backwards, I could've played that, with the same result too.

That shot sergio hit was just madness, he had lost his head. Whatever happened to taking your medicine, chipping out to the fairway and trying to make par that way. He was never gonna pull that shot off in a million years.

Recently attended a golf show in SA where a guy who came 5th in the world long driving champs hits a 9 iron 190metres! He uses a 6deg loft driver with a 5 shaft and gets something like 280 yds carry. Very strong tall fellow! Shame!

One of the pro's at our place for a few months last year was ranked second or 3rd in europe for long driving a few years back. His driver had a 50" shaft and 4, yes 4, degrees of loft. He didn't need it very often on the course :) but I played 9 holes with him once and he was out driving me with a 5 iron. When I say out driving, his ball landed where mine had stopped. Never seen anything like it in my life, it was obscene!

So how do they do it? Is it just down to technique or special clubs with unusual lofts and long shafts etc

Mind you watching it last night shows that you can get distance, but if you can't get it in the hole it don't mean a thing!

slightly off theme but how much golf is on sky i dont watch much sports but i enjoy watching golf is it worth the extra money?

There is a fair bit. Especially Thurs thru Sunday what with live and repeats. Some nights you get some archive footage from years gone by which is interesting viewing at times.

Is it worth the money alone? no. But if your into sports in general and will watch football, cricket, tennis, etc then yeah, you get your money's worth.

Nice to know that it's not just me watching :D
I think it's worth every penny, I've watched almost every ball hit this year, men, womens & seniors on both the European and PGA tours.

Occasionally I even watch some other sports just because I can! :D Barcelona was a great match and it's kinda weird to start seeing Chelsea and ManU games live again.
Should have subscribed years ago,.. but then again I had work to do in those days :D

That was some bolt of lightening. See the damage it done to the tree?

Was good seeing the film of the 2000 US Open in the absence of any live golf. An amazing margin of victory - I wonder if he will repeat it this year?
