Vast improvement in your game

I know we all have these false alarms where you secretly think something has happened and your golf game has clicked.. only for you to have a horrendous game not so long after!

But... has anybody ever had one of those Eureka moments and something actually clicked and you went on to the next level?
I'd be very interested to find out!

Yep. Only been playing 6 months, and in the last month I have become incredibly better, and for two reasons. The first reason is that I bought a second hand Odyssey putter, which is like a magic wand. The second is something I have always known but been unable to do. That is NOT to try and hit the ball to hard. Wanting the ball to go a long away is naturally associated with striking it as hard as you can, but golf being what it is says otherwise. As soon as I could put into practice what I already knew things started to happen. In one month I have gone from scoring about 110 on a par 74 course to scoring under 100 on a regular basis, and this through the middle of winter. Needless to say, I am still rubbish compared to you lot, but I am 58 years old with numerous aches and pains.

Had loads of eureka moments, sadly none of them have been permanent and I generally cycle through the most recent ones when I play until I find one that hits the ball well.

My sudden drops in handicap have coincided with becoming a better putter, becoming a better chipper, and managing my game better.

My eureka moment was learning to cock my wrists when driving, it's got me a lot more distance and am now having birdie moments. played today and first five holes I just could not get my drives away, knew what I was doing and not doing then bang, am back.

Another eureka moment is knowing the difference between a bad shot and a bad decision. We all have done bad shots, But we can all cut out bad decisions.
eg, our 11th is a two shot par four for me and a PP both hit decent drives but were blocked out by big trees. PP says I am going to bend it plays left to right naturally. Puts it straight in trees. Come off with 7 for 1, me played it to corner 8 iron. PW 10 ft below hole. Putt stops 2" short for 4 for 4, end up with 5 for 3.

Most golfers have had lessons re swing but none re decision making.

I know when my eureka moment re wrist cock was but not when my decision moment was.

Not a eureka moment as such, but after having had a mini meltdown in a lesson way back in November, my teaching pro gave me a metaphorical kick up the rear along with a plan to structure my practice and a number of drills to focus on in practice.

At first I didn't see any difference, but once the rain lessened and I got out on course more regularly, I immediately saw the benefits of my practice. I'm on a run of conistent stableford scores, which I could only have dreamed about two years ago. I'm hitting the ball better and the best bit is that the feedback from my pro after a recent playing lesson was that he'd had to really pick at things to identify potential improvements.

All in all I'm happy with how things are progressing and I'm definitely motivated to kick on and make the improvements discussed at my lesson last night.

MY eureka moment was to start using pink castle tees when driving !!!! I was one of those " only use white wooden tees" brigade and frowned upon castle tees. The logic was always there but my "vanity" or plain stupidity meant that until recently I wasn't even prepared to try. I am now a convert and am experiencing much more driving consistency and dare i say it length.

I'm surprised it's that way round Drewster.
I'm the opposite. I used to only use them and now I think I'd hit driver off the deck rather than tee a pinkie up! Weird isn't it. I must be a golf snob!

A putting lesson!

I had a few lessons on driving and irons that were great for sure but realised I was losing more on putts that elsewhere. I had never had a putting lesson as 'everyone can putt can't they'

One hour lesson and transformed my reliability of getting down in 2 putts and making more single putts completely.
