US Open 2025 - Oakmont

Shiskine is on rocky land similar to many moorland type courses in Scotland. No doubt it drains well but it's not really on sand with fescue and marram grasses. Kirkistown is similar but it's actually quite a long way inland in places but has a couple of linksy type holes, bit like the front 9 at Pyle and Kenfig.

Would you have Loften as a links courses as the ground there is very similar to Shiskine

The Greens are certainly links , and the land is what you class as a links course but there is a lot of rocky land

From memory the land at Askernish is similar as well - a lot of those Hebrides are like that

Can't comment on Lofoten as I've not been there but it does look more rocky than sandy from what I've seen of it.

Shiskine is not Hebridean it lies in the Firth of Clyde, though from memory of when I played it a long time back I agree and would not really describe it as Links like. Never played Askernish but it's layout amongst the dunes sound links like. You certainly do get good links like terrain in the Hebrides as well as moorland ground. The Machrie on Islay really is absolutely classic links terrain and Scarista on Harris is as well.

Not sure what’s going on with Rory, but he really is acting like a petulant child.
Well he came out of the scorers hut to give the 2 guys that were walking with him volunteering with the score sign and the other guy signed balls.

Something I havent seen other guys do.

He was just having a bad day. And Im a LIV fan. So for me to say something positive about the PGA no2 is well.....

There are definitely strong elements of links there. Sand based, hard fairways, excessive number of bunkers, largely flat with humps and bumps. I think inland links is it's closest definition.

It's the turf that really defines links for me. If the sea has receded and left an inland dunescape then inland links is a fair definition.

If you take a piece of farmland, mow the grass and turn it into a golf course, it is never going to be links, despite the marketing guff on the club's website.

You can't just grow some fescue rough and claim it's inland links :ROFLMAO:

It's going back a while, but earlier in this thread I called Sheffler a 'flat track bully' implying that he dominates mainly on easy courses. A lot of you replied in disagreement, and after having put some more thought into it, I do think I misjudged him. He's simply a brilliant golfer, who has also done well in The Open for example. It would seem that I had misunderestimated him - to quote a former president of the USA.

No no no. If you reflect on other peoples’ opinions and are prepared to alter your view in a reasonable way when presented with additional information, and then acknowledge that, then you haven’t got the hang of how this internet discussion thing is normally done at all. 😆

I’m sorry but I completely disagree

Watching him on Sunday and also with the driver on the hoarding it seems that he needs to seek help for anger issues

He already has. It was covered in Full Swing.

Although his swearing on Sunday was no different to what I hear on the golf course from playing partners and myself every week. To be fair we're not on TV or surrounded by spectators.
