US Open 2025 - Oakmont

Sounds like a good day, we did a works day there, must say the full English was excellent.
Yes that was last week. A great week of golf..I ball spotted one day. Got to meet finch who had a following of about 30 which was 30 more than anyone else

Videos to come soon by sounds

Took my dad down Thursday to see an hours of the action , was great he's never seen my course before

The Pga insist the yardage markers are taken in and we haven't put them back out yet so was weird out there today .. no reference to where the ball landed near lol

About the only good thing on the menu. We hope the new owners improve the food drastically

Me and my mate end up down the pub for lunch afters

Ask the good members and fellows of Aldeburgh and Ganton 🤷🏻‍♂️

I believe it’s a good description, of those two courses — they are, broadly heathland but less of the ‘English country garden’ aesthetic (Sunningdale Old, Berkshire Red, Liphook etc) and more links-style (and close to the coast) heathland —- so more gorse bushes, heavily sandy soil and coastal fauna and less English garden flowers and heather

That’s my interpretation and opinion

It’s a very close interpretation as well

A lot of the heathland courses have that same sandy fairways etc

But greens and rough is very different on somewhere like Ganton and Aldeburgh- a lot of fescue

There are a few courses that are Moorland/downland type which are exposed to the elements

Was quite a few years ago I went.

Sheringham is a interesting one - a number would see it more as a cliff top course like Thurlstone etc

Not sure if they call it that in Huddersfield.
I think a tea cake everywhere has currents but in,not sure why we call it that tbh.

As someone who was born in Huddersfield, and has lived in the area for 52 of my 55 years on the planet, I can confirm that they do call it a Teacake.

Currant Teacakes have currants in.

Well that list is guff. It doesn't have my first club on it, Alnmouth Village GC. It's a links course, simple as. It's even losing part of the course to coastal erosion at the moment, as if to prove the point.

Little 9 holer ? Supposed to be the oldest 9 holer in England and certainly a links course

This is Golf Empires list

Which ones are you thinking ?

Sheringham for me is more cliff top but can see why it can be classed as a links
Yeah Sheringham, Shiskine and Kirkistown. All coastal but definitely not links. If they are want to include Sheringham then they would have to include Cromer as well. Ardglass is in the same category as well but isn't listed.

What would you class Shiskine ?

That’s very much on links land

Kirkistown looks like Pennard

Shiskine is on rocky land similar to many moorland type courses in Scotland. No doubt it drains well but it's not really on sand with fescue and marram grasses. Kirkistown is similar but it's actually quite a long way inland in places but has a couple of linksy type holes, bit like the front 9 at Pyle and Kenfig.
