US Open 2025 - Oakmont

I think it does need to be stopped.

One week a player smashes his driver through the advertising hoardings nearly hitting a marshal.
Then he’s wrecking the Oakmont changing room.

Broken windows theory.
Stop it early.

If we behaved like Rory has this week on the course (smashing tee markers) we would be given a ban followed by full on revoke of membership if we didn't stop that behaviour

Considering the manors expected on the golf course and some of the high and mighty on here it's amazing how much he gets away with because it's Rory

Just out of interest, and you have to be honest, have none of you guys EVER thrown a club or slammed it into the ground.
I know I have, I'm not proud of it, but I have done it in the past.

Why would a club revoke your membership if you threw a club 😂

And how many members do you know that have destroyed a tee marker

Never seen it once

Since we are condemming people.....throw them out of the club for.....throwing clubs, slow play/not letting people play through, not raking sand or repair divots, swearing, coloured socks, not buying rounds of drinks, changing shoes in the parking lot.....there's no end to the sins committed by golfers!!!

Pros have been reacting in the clubhouse for decades , they pay the damage

Even the likes of Jack Nicklaus smacked his club against a locker
Are you ok with Sergio Garcia hacking divots out of the greens because he got a little angry.?

It’s someone else’s property just paying for the damage isn’t good enough imo.

Would any of us get away with wrecking the lockers ?I think we would be done for criminal damage and banned from the property for life.

But that’s not on the course so no penalty !

We are on a forum. It allows us to make moral judgements on people with a public profile, whilst none of our sins can ever be judged. :)

Not just Rory all pro golfers and golfers in general!
It’s dangerous !
But we don’t have a big crowd watching us !

What if the club that hit his bag and he caught went the other way and hit a spectator or PP.?

Incidentally, is it not a penalty for moving a tee marker? Would that penalty apply if it was smashed to bits?

If it's bryson it's a 7 shot pen and a £10k fine if it's Rory it's an invite for a knock about and a pint

Hacking divots out of the green is a touch higher on the scale don’t you think

Same when he was spitting in the cups

And why would we damage the locker room ?!

It’s not comparable when we aren’t out there under immense pressure trying to earn a living

If a pro damages a locker he pays to fix it

The club throwing is minor, whilst could be dangerous it just makes him look a plonker

However smashing up any part of the course isn't on

Garcia got so much hate on here for it but nope it's Rory. Crack on

As I said “ broken windows theory “ it starts with minor things.

If you did that where you work would your boss be ok because you had a bad day.?

I snapped the 7 iron of my Titleist 690.cb irons after a chunk on a par 3 and threw in the deep burn. Instantly regretted it and swore to never do the same again. I miss those irons had to get rid after that

But I wouldn’t because it’s not comparable to playing professional sport for millions - the pressure is vastly different

Players have been throwing clubs etc for decades your broken window theory of encouraging kids etc doesn’t seem to happen

It’s not even like he was in contention.
And it’s not like he needs the money

Apparently, some even play left handed! ;)
