US Open 2025 - Oakmont

Is that Oakmont off the tees for this tournament with this rough and pin position,?
If so I don't think I would get even close to my handicap.
I'd have to shoot 95, I don't think I'm going under three figures.
I think that’s the “normal” back tees as it says Par 71 and the Open set up is Par 70.

I gave up watching the US Open seriously years ago. I’ve caught bits of this, but am not really watching it.

Personally I am absolutely sick and tired of the USGA and their willy waving. They make the courses so ridiculously difficult that they border on unfair, punishing decent shots as you rightly say.

I am no fan of seeing 25 under winning tournaments, but neither do I enjoy seeing the worlds best golfers look like hackers. If I want to watch hackers, I go to mine on a Saturday morning.

Add in rollback and it makes you wonder if we've got the right people running the game.

I admit to a cheeky tenner on Rory to miss the cut. I also did an accumulator of five short priced players to miss the cut. Four of them did🫤

This'll be more interesting today. Early starter shooting under par will be out fairly late on Sunday.
Hopefully yes. Round 2 will soon be complete and we can find out the round 3 tee times.

If that long par 3 was a par 4 then they'd have 7 people under par!
That’s why the USGA always try to run their championship as a par 70 irrespective of whether the layout is a par 71 (like Oakmont) or a par 72 like many recent venues. They hate having lots of people under par at their Open.
Sort of highlights the irrelevance of par.

Hilarious how quiet this thread is now that golden boy is nowhere near!
Business as usual in my book, let's see who can come up with the goods 👍

The USGA chose the course for their Open, and work with the Club to have the type of test they want….players choose whatever clubs they like to comprise their 14 in their bag, and choose which one to hit, where to aim for, and when to hit….

They’re affected by the weather and wind, to hugely varying degrees (as they obvs tee off at different times) But apart from that, nothing is really ‘unfair’ in golf….the golfer puts the ball where he/she puts it….they can’t blame anyone else

If big names aren’t challenging, then so what? The winner will be the best player over the 4 days on the test presented by the course

Vintage McGinley.

"That's the wrong shape, might catch a piece of the edge of the green."

Ball lands bang in front of the flag, rolls to within a foot!🤣🤣
Can't be bothered with him at all. I really like Laura Davies on commentary, Beem and Coltart are good but he is brutal. Sucks up Rory's arse constantly too.

I have to admit that I'm finding watching it all a bit of a struggle.
I love the difficulty and don't mind who's on the leaderboard .................... it's the course.
I just find it so unattractive it's leaving me somewhat under whelmed.
If I ever had the chance to play it, I think I'd just drive right on by.
I agree totally. Wouldnt even want to play that course for free

Oh SockyBob, please put a sock in it, your dislike of Rory is becoming tedious at best and downright annoying at worst.
He has won the grand slam, how many have done that? To call him a fluke is just crass.

Everyone will agree that he hasn’t fulfilled his potential and he should have won more, but you can’t argue with the success he has had.

He’s a much better golfer than thou 👍
