Already sick of the TV commentary asking if it is fair or not. Of cause it is fair because it is the same for everyone, players just don't like not being in their comfort zone of throwing darts at the flag. This will be a battle of attrition about dropping the least amount of shots rather than getting as many birdies as possible.

IMO all majors should adopt the same principle

Agreed, if par means anything then breaking it should be the achievement.

Which one was the competition a few years ago where only Bryson went under par? Was it also the US Open?
Yep, it was announced as the start of his domination. Seem to remember it was his putting that set him apart, not just his driving (although that will have helped). Thick rough, narrow fairways and fast greens.
