Our clubhouse was broken into on Tuesday night and all our trophies were stolen. Some of these have been played for for over 100yrs - and one - our Silver Frigate is absolutely irreplaceable - and it's the symbol/emblem of our club.

Yes there are bad things going on in the word but I can hardly think of anything worse that can happen to a Golf Club - and it's happened to mine. I am so upset I can't tell you...:(

So sorry to hear that, mate.

I hope they get at least some of the stuff back... especially the Silver Frigate.

Eyes on ebay, chaps and chapesses!

I did wonder, for a few seconds, if the post was going to say, "societies and visiting fourballs have been allowed on at weekends from 11am!" ;)

Thanks bud - I'd gladly swap what you wondered for return of 'the frigate'

Very sorry to hear that. I was a member at Farnham for 25 years, and competed for a lot of the trophies. Never won one. The Silver Frigate is a fantastic trophy, and so hope all the trophies are recovered and returned to their rightful place.

Absolute *********s. Get in touch with all the places that could buy them locally and within an hours drive, Cash Converters, Cash for gold shops, that sort of thing, these ****s have to sell them somewhere and probably won't drive for miles to do so, the frigate is the most obvious one but ask them to keep an eye out, don't rely on the police to do it, they're busy guys and with the best will in the world might not be able to.

the cctv footage will show loads, from that the police will have a good idea who it is and where they 'fence' their goods.........I believe the stats show they can recover within 48hrs, after that its not likely (sorry), basically I'm saying that so you (or some official at the club) keeps on top of them for this time, sometimes it's down to who is shouting the loudest.

Any police members at the club who can put in a word?

Awful news, any security cameras around the club?

Yes - fortunately - we were broken into a few months back but only the charity bottle on the bar stolen. As a result we have had CCTV installed recently and they were caught on that - three of them - balaclavas and all. Don't know if it captured any vehicle.

Its a sad state of affairs when scum and yes I mean thieving scum do this sort of thing. Somethings money can replace e.g tv's, peripherals and such like, but others cannot simply because of sentiment and what they mean to those involved.

Also be worth looking at pawnshops, and any local cash for golf(jewellery) merchants as they are likely to get contacted for the fact they melt the stuff down to its original state.

Hope someone catches the little toerags and the members to exact the punishment on them.

Sad news indeed, I hope the club have all the named records of the trophies somewhere safe. I remember Royal Mid Surrey clubhouse being burnt to the ground and they lost all of the records.
Some of these old trophies were real works of art. My grandfather won the Esmond Trophy at North Berwick a beautiful silver replica of Edinburgh Castle.
No doubt they will be melted down by the unmentionables who stole them and the bigger crooks who will receive them.

We have a retired Chief Inspector (of Sussex Police I believe) who is a member

Really don't know what to suggest, must be pretty awful for the members. Hate to say this but it's likely everything will be melted down for it's monetary value, the trophies themselves aren't actually worth anything to anyone outside the club.

Royal Winchester had a clubhouse fire about 20 or so years ago and they lost absolutely everything, trophies, records, documents....the lot.

The Silver Frigate is a competition I've been meaning to play in for the last few years just not got round to it yet. Hopefully next year......and playing for the original trophy as well!!

Thanks for words of support all - and yes @DarthVega - that's the frigate on our home page - about 18" high. Valuers reckoned it couldn't be replaced as skills no longer with us.

sorry to hear about the thert mate, must be very hard for everyone to take in. Hope the police catch them in time, as now days these metal thieves are melting down their stolen bits themselves before scrapping it in to erase any proof of what got taken from where :(
