Hello,

Me again!

I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to what stats might be an 'average' performance for different handicaps.

By that what I mean is say you're a 28 handicapper, what would an average FIR/GIR/total putts look like?

Same for 20...15...10 etc.

Just trying to look at my game and see how things stack up and compare but actually other than total gross score it's quite difficult to know what a 28 handicapper's stats should look like...or what an average 28 player might score in those areas.

Even an average stat is hard to beat fella, remember for every average there are plenty of good and god awfuls in there to even it out.
Go out and try to think like a better golfer and you will know how better to avoid the costly ones. Good golfers know when to lay up and when not to pull out the 60 degree wedge like Excalibur.

My last round

FIR 3
GIR15
Putts 31

I think that was the figures, shot 71, level par. I never really hit that many fairways tho

It's hard to pinpoint exact stats to aim for in my opinion.

For example you might be a good driver of the ball an hit more fairways than your handicap suggests but be an awful chipper and putter so your handicap is high.

If your someone who is average at everything and have no real obvious strengths or weaknesses then your in a minority. If you know where you struggle the most then practise this more until it's a strength. Then practise what you were originally good at and make it better. Your handicap should tumble then. (sounds good doesn't it :D )

Only you know what you need to work on the most so get practising and don't worry about stats at all.

Hope this helps. :)

Scoresaver2 the stats software is available for a months free trial, it gives an idea of how you compare to your handicap. Stats aren't for everyone, but if you go to my blog on the website you'll see an example of what I mean on there.

Website link below.

I hope it helps a bit.

Can you get onto the HDID website?

If you can, there's a statistical comparison page where you can look at the stats your after, but only in player catogory 1-5

That's probably about the most accurate you will get, as it takes in thousands of rounds of golf.

FIR 60.7%
GIR 44.4%
Scrambling 30%
putts 1.8

means i need to work on my iron play spose.
I am very strict on myself with GIR tho, if its just in the
fringe its a miss

Hi Barry

According to SS2 it is:

FIR 16%
GIR 3%
Putts 40

Based on your previous post you seem to be hitting the fairway really consistently but being too short to reach GIR. My advice is short game, short game, short game. If you can consistently chip it close for a one putt you'll be flying!

I have absolutely no idea what my stats are nor would I want to. It is just another way to heap pressure on yourself IMO and I can do without that thank you very much.

Kept stats for the first time last year, just as a matter of interest, I dont really get too hung up on them. Although they do clearly indicate I am a pish putter!

Fairways - 9/14
GIR - 12/18
Putts - 34

If I was you, take advice from previous posts and ignore stats, percentages etc. Just get out, play and enjoy, handicap will take care of itself.

I keep stats on GIR but not FIR. I think I am going to start keeping the FIR once I get my GPS device (how many acronyms can I fit in one sentence).

But for basically my whole golfing life (only 26 rounds) my average putts per round has been 2.04.

For some reason I can't find my GRI stats. Think I may have to get SS2. How much does it cost after the 30 day trial period?

This is also my view.

Total rubbish, in my view.

Even after a very few games, it can be a valuable tool in highlighting areas of your game that might need a bit more working on. If nothing else, it would confirm or otherwise your gut feeling about where your game needs urgent improvement and at the same time concentrate the mind.

There again, you may not take the game seriously nor want to improve.

Clearly quite a contentious topic!

I just wanted to know what would be good for comparison. Knowing the averages let you see what parts of your game stack up against others? Of your - say - 20 handicap, are you a 10 handicapper on driving but a 28 handicapper when it comes to putting. Not everyone is equally abled at all aspects of the game so it's nice to have something to see where you fit.

Can't fully agree with you there Brendy

FIR, GIR, sand saves, penalties, etc are still valid whatever length of course you are playing or whatever the run. The only stat that might not really valid could be putting on temps.

I should have put "at the moment"

When I lower my handicap to a Mid level..... Then I'll keep a track.
