TV Tinny sound

My TV pic quality is great but the sound is pretty poor and if a decent movie or music is on we have to crank it up from lvl 20 to lvl 53 and even then its tinny.

swmbo hates cable clutter so cant do the cinema surround thing but I'd like to get something discrete but better than the tv sound.
any tried and tested options?

You could just buy a tv sub-woofer and stick it behind the tv. Bobmac's suggestion for a sound bar is also a good one. Saw one on Amazon for just over £100.

Bose Solo gets excellent reviews and at £350 is not as pricey as some Bose gear down the years. I still have a Bose Cube 8 system from 1998 and it still blows by B&W kit out of the water for clarity and low polarisation.

Only downside I can see of the Solo is that it's not as elegant looking as most other Bose gear, maybe hence the price point.

Bose Solo might have been a good option but only does up to 42" TV's

The sound bar and sub is probably best but now which one? best looks, sound and less cables.........man why cant the TV people just make a tv with decent speakers:angry:

Because quality speakers take up space and as we are clamouring to have the thinnest and lightest TV's out there is means that something has to give and, as sound can be provided by other devices, picture is the be all and end all for manufacturers.

Personally I use an Onkyo amp running HDMI ARC to a 5.1 speaker system with minimal visible cabling (under floor and over ceiling - the joy of living in a bungalow). Two floor standing speakers, Two Bi-polar surrounds, a two cone centre and an active sub all Gayle Audio. I do this because this is where better sound will come from. Sound bars are ok, but still not brilliant IMO.

I use my conservatory as a gym and the TV can be hard to hear when I'm working out as the sound is rubbish. I'm not even sure what a sound bar thingy is and don't want to spend too much but have seen this? To those that do know - is it all I would need to connect to the TV and amplify the sound a little as that's all it needs? Thanks...

I bought a Samsung sound bar in the January sales for £150 that had the woofer built in to it meaning even less wires, very happy with it. Got it from Currys.
