TV Series - What Are You Watching?

i certainly wouldn't call it overrated. especially when you consider when it was made and the quality of other dramas at that time and was at the start of the era when TV (especially US) went from average rubbish to sucking the life out of cinema and the start of the TV takeover

I think that this is a good point. The Sopranos was right at the start of the change to really high quality TV drama that rivaled the cinema and irrespective of how it appears today, that was a ground breaking thing and the start of the big budget shows with quality actors that we get now. Strangely, I have never watched it either. Seeing as there will be a massive gap in TV and film schedules next year due to the current strikes, I can see myself giving it a go after Xmas.

Interesting conversation above. Going to stick with it anyway. Also now got access to The Wire - which I'll also give a go. Mrs B has seen that previously and rates it as the best thing she's seen.

From back in those days, I still recommend The Shield. That was great from start to finish with a satisfying pay off at the end. Just a great TV show.

Very late in starting to watch The Sopranos (only just got access to it). It's fine, entertaining, and perfectly watchable - but after half a dozen episodes or so, I'm not getting why it's regarded as being one of the best ever TV dramas. No sure if I'm missing something in it?
Have said this before, but we tried it and didn't get it at all. Watched the first 6 or 7 episodes and were thoroughly bored. Just gave up on it.

I think part of the problem people have is that they think they’re getting one thing (TV series of Godfather/Goodfellas type mafia action) and get another (a man with anxiety navigating life with his counsellor while trying to manage a complex series of relationships).

We are currently watching "Only Murders in the Building"

One season down and its quite entertaining, nothing outstanding but a decent watch.

Maybe, but I would have settled for absolutely anything interesting happening at all. But it didn't.

I am watching 'In to the Night' just finished series one and 2 episodes in to series 2 in the course of one week.

It's about a group of disparate people on a plane that have to stay ahead of sunrise or die. Just so much fuel and working out where to land to refuel and replenish the food and water.

So I'm on the last few episodes of ER S1 and find episode 24 of 25 is missing. Check the schedule and it now starts at Series 4 Episode 8. I only started to watch from the beginning again as they were all available. Drives me nuts when broadcasters do that. Keep up with their schedule or lose big chunks. Grrrr.

See, for me The Wire is absolutely in the conversation for best show ever and is so far ahead of The Sopranos in both pacing and the character progression.
Interesting. I've tried twice to get into The Wire and just hasn't clicked for me. Same with Breaking Bad. Never watched The Sopranos either.

I've just cleared my 300th episode of ER. Not long to go...half of series 14 and then the last, 15th

i think the Shield was underapreciated and The Wire got all the plaudits at the time - still got to watch The Wire, have done 6 episodes but got sidetracked. But for me Shiled is right up there among the best along with other favourites such as Justified
