TV Series - What Are You Watching?

Having had a quick check on google, the actual show only ran until 1991 on a regular basis with 16 sporadic Xmas specials running up to 2003. That sort of surprised me as I would have sworn that it had run until later in the 1990s.

With that in mind and a 30 year old possibly being only 10 when the last of it aired, it would not seem inconceivable not to have any real idea about it. By the time that you reach an age of streaming retro TV or watching re-runs, it was pretty much out of the public conscious.

It is interesting to start seeing generational gaps in TV viewing like this.
I know what you mean, and would be true for 99% of comedies, but Only Fools just has this iconic status where it's no exaggeration to say that many would rate it the best of all time. So I'd expect most people to have at least seen a fair few episodes, if not the entire thing.

Streaming of series only makes it more likely that younger people will watch it doesn't it? People gets through whole series in a matter of weeks these days, and are always looking for new things to binge-watch.

Better than Blackadder? Ooof not for me, I’d put Bo Selecta above it as well now I come to think of it 🤣

I have to sort of agree, certainly with Blackadder. Only Fools and Horses has some absolutely classic scenes that are all time greats but watching it week in week out when I was younger I am not sure I saw it as a solid gold classic every time and I think sometimes I look back on it with rose tinted specs a bit. Bot like Monty Python, when at the top it is some of the most quotable comedy around but there was a lot of dross around every Dead Parrot sketch. I may have to give it another go now to see how it stands up to current standards.

I agree 100%, I’ve seen plenty of awful OFAH episodes, I’m struggling to think of one single poor episode of Blackadder, specially Goes Forth which for me is the pinnacle of UK tv.

Some of the episodes in the first ever series were a bit sketchy in places but Brian Blessed bellowing is always watchable. It really hit its stride in the second series.

Didn't say it was my number 1, that would be Peep Show. But you must realised I'm not wrong in what I said - a lot of people would put Only Fool as their number one. Just Google it and you'll see that - it's always in the top 3 for UK comedies.

Yes I know what you meant, I would have hoped you had better taste than to put it as no1 🤣

I'm going to go a bit old school and throw in Porridge and Dad's Army. No, I didn't see them first time around ;).

Blackadder is tough to top though. Only Fools doesn't necessarily date that well. Brilliant at the time but maybe of a time?

Another one who has never seen an episode of Friends. Anytime it's been advertised on TV I've thought it irritating and silly and samey plus I expect that to be the highlights!

Plus I think it has canned laughter? Simply cannot watch anything with it.

I was a big fan of Cheers and Frasier so not averse to a US Sitcom but something about Friends was just off putting to me (and both of those are series I would have above Only Fools and Horses).

It's still repeated all the time though. Hard to believe that anyone hasn't watched it really. Similar to Friends.

I'm interested now, wonder what the question was?
Which Fools and Horses character says " Ain't there no words to this Dave? when listening to Mozart with Rodney?
Options A- Del Boy, B- Boycie C- Trigger.

Started watching Season5 of What We Do In The Shadows. Only to discover we’d completely missed Season 4. Which was nice. ;)

I have never watched Black Adder. There have been plenty of classic comedies such as Fawlty Towers, Rising Damp, Dad's Army etc that I would rate higher. Each to their own, many oldies would probably give a mention to the now unacceptable Till Death Do Us Part and It Ain't Half Hot Mum which were at the time deemed to be very funny.

I thought it was unbelievable tonight on The Chase, a clever 30-year-old contestant lost out because he didn't know the answer to an easy Only Fools and Horses question.
Then my wife admits she has never watched it either.
I used to work in the evenings and missed loads of stuff that others talk about. Thank goodness for Dave
