hello everyone. I've just registered to forum today and i thought i would make use of it! I've been playing since may so as yet have not had a winter. I just wanted to know if clubs ever stop you taking a trolley onto the course because of the weather? I've only got a heavy cart bag so if this is the case then I'd better get a spare, lighter bag to carry in the van!

Obviously avoid ever taking your trolley onto the green...i always play carrying my bag...nothing like a good work out for the shoulders...

and funnily enough when you take off the bag to swing you actually feel a bit free-er in the shoulders because you have shed the weight.

I have never heard about courses stopping you take a trolley out on the course but it all depends on the conditions. Surely if you can't take a trolley through fear of it sinking then you would hope that they would be closing the course...

Quite a lot of courses do have a trolley ban in the winter, it depends how well the course drains. If you play the same few courses (or are a member), you could ask the likelyhood of this happening in the Pro shop.

Welcome ademac,
Some courses ban them but adamant trolley users pay the doctor for a sick note and become a medical exception!! others use hedgehog spikes which are good, some carry, but I don't think clubs ban them for long periods but ban them for times after heavy rains I believe, I might be wrong and some of the other guys can correct me.

I think its more to do with damaging the track rather than sinking, though I would sometimes like to see trolley users sink ;)

I know lot of courses that operate total trolley bans in the winter and some that insist on the hedgehog tracks on the wheels. My advice is to always phone up and check first as there is nothing worse than turning up with a big trolley bag and having to carry it round

sorry for being a bit ignorant{possibly},but is using a trolley seen as a bad thing?

No its a good thing, it saves you energy for your game and also saves your back, the only reason its done is to protect the course from excess damage when its at the wettest time, if not the damage will take a lot longer to repair itself.

I use the Mizuno Aerolite 2 which is retailing online for about £45, its light with enough room and has a glove thingy where you can keep your glove if you take it off, but it depends on your budget.

by the way, can anyone tell me how to change my profile i.e. whats in the bag?

Click on User Options - then EDIT "Personal information, email, password, etc. "

and do the do on there.

Just got the new Ping Latitude stand bag that has as many storage spaces as you can imagine, and light to boot even though I have transferred all my stuff from the cart bag.

Usually a cart man, but my club insist on hedgehogs in the winter, and with all the rain and standing water and mud, carrying has been good instaed of dragging the trolley through the water

There are loads of good carry bags out there. It depends on whether you ar elike me and carry loads in it at this time of year (waterproofs, spare gloves, towels, drinks balls, tees, hat and umbrella) or you go for a minimalist approach. If you are like me you might want one with a few pockets

have a good look at the pockets and work out what you want to carry. some of the clothing/waterproofs pockets don't really have enough material in them.

and look for double straps

I dont think I could go back to carry bag unless I have to for the reasons members have indicated. Its not the immediate effect on you or your game, its the long term effect that can happen to many (not all) people. If it was good for your game Im sure the tour pro's would save cash and carry the bags themselves lol.
Ive got used to my cheap old trolly that I have fixed with bolts when the wheels snapped off.lol. A little while ago I played a wet course and had to go back to carry bag, I bloody ached like hell after that round, but never noticed during the round, maybe Im just not used to it by now or maybe its a clear indicator of what a carry bag can do.Who knows?

Lucky you play offshore, offshore!

We get trolley bans all the time between about now and March.....everywhere, almost.

Buy a nice carry bag.....it's the only way to be sure.

Interestingly my club is this year conducting a trial where they are not going to have a trolley ban even if it is frosty or completely soaked etc. Seems strange but apparently it will not be overly detrimental to the course- it is a trial though so it could go wrong and be scrapped as soon as it starts.

Maybe its better exercise for you to carry, you work muscles you don't often use, rather than making up stories that its detrimental to carries health ;) Though I play a short course its no biggy but on a longer course I wouldnt turn my nose up at a elec trolley.
