Trilby Tour tomorrow!

I won. I can't physically or mentally go into it tonight (I'm drunk!) but wow. Thanks for the support guys!!!!
Fantastic!!!!!!
tell us more!

That's 2 of the winners I know of this year. One of our members won the Old Thorn event to become Champion of Hampshire......
bet you are thrilled! :D :D

awesome result, congrats

just shows that even someone off the top handicap of 18 has a chance, if I get down near that end of the season I may well enter it myself one year :)

hows the head this morning?

That's quality Jaymo.

The area winners get the full Saville Row fitting before the final don't they?? That's another £600 or £700 worth of clobber again!!

Nice one matey

So, where do I start? Probably the 5.30 triple alarm chorus to make sure I woke up. Ouch.

Got to the course for 7am, and just saw the first group off. Got me thinking a bit when the starter announces that there are 2 million viewers who will see this. That helped the digestive system a little.

Registered, got bag (very nice Callaway number, black with cream logo etc), trilby (too small, I have a massive swede) and caddy outfit for my pal.

You have to be on the tee area 20 minutes before the start, which works well as it creates a crowd for every group going off. Played with a 4 & 11 handicapper, so I was the weak link. Good lads too, we had some great banter.

First tee. Bizarrely I enjoyed it! Wasn't exactly a Timmyesque drive but was well down, in a fairway bunker. No bad place. Net par and off we go! Followed by a blob on the second. After that went 10 holes with bogey or par golf, and even birdied the 11th, but not a shot hole due to ¾ handicap had a couple of 1 pointers on 14 & 15 but then finished with a 25 foot par put on the 18th for a net birdie and 36 points.

Looked up at the leader board and saw I was joint leader. Amazed! Saying that, there was 90 players to go!

Within 20 minutes I was J3, with a 38 & a 37 coming in, and with the conditions being perfect I thought there might be a couple of 40s, so based on having nothing to do but wait I hit the free Jack Daniels cocktails....not the smartest move!

Two hours later there isn't a better score in, and it's a 5 way tie for 3rd. I panicked cos I then thought I may have to hit some more balls!!!! straight onto diet coke and watching every group in. At 6pm we knew there were 7 of us tied for 3rd, so there was going to be a play off – a 85 yard shot from 1st tee to 18th green. Randomly I've done this shot a few times, so knew what it needed, so only hit a few warm up shots. Still never thought I''d get on the green, never mind get through. I went 6th, and no one else had landed. Hit a ¾ SW which pitched 10 ft past, then came back a couple of foot – I'd qualified for the final play off. I shat myself for a few minutes while they got the 4th person.

My caddie was amazing. Known him for 20 years and he's a legend. Never stopped talking to me and keeping me at it. Couldn’t have done it without him. Cheers Deano!

The play off is 3 hole strokeplay, down 1, 2 & 18, which happen to be my least favourite holes. Its all so stage managed for sky, which really builds up the tension, All the marshals were members at the club so were right behind me, which was great, but built up the pressure, but not quite as much as the bloody big TV camera next to me! Played 1 in bogey/net par , then onto 2 with one of the guys out after a duffed double chip. I managed to power fade my shot behind a copse of trees, leaving me 130 to the middle over 80-90 ft trees. Cracked a 9 iron with the full kitchen sink behind it to get high, and got a massive roar, but I didn't have a clue where I went. Other 3 played good shots, but the lad who'd also parred rolled into the greenside bunker. As I walked up I saw my ball – 10 ft away from the flag. 2 putt par/birdie, with the other guy bogeying gave me a 2 shot lead up to the 18th......

I won't lie, I was bricking it. Dry mouth, squeaky bum the lot!!

450yd uphill 18th. I'm off the tee first, cracked a peach, left myself 200 in, so took a 5 iron to get close and give a chip and two put. Apart from the shot didn't move in the wind and I left myself a 30 yard chip over a bunker to a tight pin!! Deano wanted me to play to the bottom of the green but I wanted to attack (my normal stupid game).Lob wedge pitch about an inch from the hole and rolled it to 6ft. The other guy went into the bunker on the other side so I had 3 puts to win. I did it in 2.

Everyone went crackers, I just stood there like a dick and didn't know what to do!! I was interviewed by William on the 18th, and then he gave me the mic to talk. I talked bollocks, and hope they don;t show it on TV!! I'd heard he was a bit of an arse, but I thought he was a gent, and truly can't wait for the final.

Suit fitting to come, and apparently a handicap cut at the club!!!! also won free membership at my place for a year, although they'll get there pound of flesh with the advertising I hope.

Apologies for the long rant, but it;s the first time I've had chance to think about it. Wow.

Thanks for the kind words

Great write up. Probably just as well you didn't do it last night. Sounds like your interview could be interesting. ;)

Good luck in the final.

Great going mate. Super write up. I reckon it takes some nerves to have to wait around to see all the scores in then go out and nail the pay off.

Brilliant.

Top man Jay.

A few liveners before playing is obviously the secret!! :D

Bloody long day having to qualify, shoot out and play off.

Be careful when they measuring your inside leg!!! Hope to see you @ the final, Oxfordshire next month for me first
