Anyone been to watch the Trilby Tour this year or know anyone who's in it today? Thinking of going after work to watch a couple of hours play at Hollins Hall.

I've been waiting for a Trilby Tour thread for a while know. TT thread comes up every year and the majority on here put it down as a expensive day out on a moderate course with a jumped up organiser. But each to there own really. I don't get to play in many comps so I treat myself once a year to play the TT St Pierre for me this year the wife is coming to caddie also so hopefully have a good night and good golf day. Go watch Hollins and see what you think. ive not made the top ten in my 3 attempts so far so mayb 4th year lucky.

unless I'm missing something it will just be the same as watching the Saturday medal at your local club:confused:

Must admit the 6 or 7 3balls I watched hitting there shot from 100-130 yards to the green were pretty poor. I'd say just under a half were short or wide to the left. Only 2 or 3 hit a decent shot within 15 feet of the hole. Good atmosphere around the place and fairly busy, seems expensive for what you get for the day.

Me and my mate played in a pairs open at Lindrick earlier in the year, got to the first tee and thought we had mixed our timing up as there were aleady 4 people standing there, how wrong could we be, there were 2 players complete with caddies:ooo: Started walking down the 1'st and asked one of the guys "where do you play then mate", his reply " we both play on the Trilby Tour"!!
That was about the only 6 words we got out of the 4 of them in the whole round, a right pair of arrogant bar people.
Oh it was so nice to beat them:)

Greens in regulation on the US PGA tour from 100 to 125 yards was topped on 89% and the lowest was 59% so about half of handicapped players missing the green would be as expected I would have thought.

Tell me this is a wind up?!!!

I played the TT for the last couple of years and it was a good experience and have no regrets. However this year I opted out due to the disappointing venues and distance that I would have needed to travel. Also they hiked the price up 10%.:ooo:

The last part of the day is probably worth a watch, they normally do a sudden death nearest the pin playoff from 100yds out on the 18th . This is to decide anyone tied for the top 10 places for the TT final. The top 4 on the day fight it out over 3 or 4 holes to decide an overall winner for the region. Despite what some may say on here about the legitimacy of handicaps, TT try their best to protect against banditry. In my experience the 4 that have made it to the playoff have been 4 handicap and below.

I think just one or two individuals with somewhat questionable handicaps have tarnished the reputation of the TT. If they can sort that out and improve the quality of the courses then I may well go back some day.

It is very well run and the lure of making it onto Sky TV is unique but it is quite expensive.

Yeah I played in that event as well, think the 2 who won it play on the Trilby Tour.... Shot 46pts!!!

Can you remember there names? A club member plays on the TT and knows a few of them?

Watched a bit of it last as I stumbled across it whiklst flcking through channels. Not sure why I'd want to be exposed as a complete hacker or chancer on Sky TV though - whole concept is a bit too 'look at me' for my liking.

My abiding thought from watching it though was the state of the greens - oh dear oh dear oh dear. What on earth has happened there - they looked absolutely 'not as good as they were earlier in the year'

All in all. The TT? - nope - not for me - and you won't catch me watching it on TV either. A 'show off' egotistic side of golf I can't stand - with apologies to all here who have played in it and are nearly nice down-to-earth folks.

I watched about 10 mins of it this morning.

Great bit at the begining where James Hunt asks Short game Wizard and 2 time Trilbytorian Tom Muldoon (16 handicap), What his secret was to winning?..

Laughed my **** off;)

Also laughed at the Tom Muldoon interview!

Greens definitely looked ropey and slow, even when allowing for the difference between Tour and normal speeds.

Interesting challenge for Rob Lee as a commentator as well.

I am one of those nice down to earth people... :D .... and no need to apologise. I agree completely with your thoughts. Once was enough for me, so many much better competitions for considerably less money.
