Driving home and went through some traffic lights on Amber (I know) as the car was halfway over the line they changed to red. I didn't see a flash from the camera but that may have been cause it was daylight or just cause it didn't catch me?

If it has caught me what's the penalty? Is it a fine and points?

Think you get a few seconds grace before they activate.
If you are caught, its the same as a NIP. £100 and 3 points

Im pretty certain it didn't flash so I think I may have been ok? Didn't go through on red they changed as I was driving through.

Could do without the fine and points but my own fault if I got caught

In Germany many of the traffic Lights on main roads have a display that indicates the countdown time before the lights will change. When approaching them you know exactly if you need to stop or carry on.

They also have a system with lights at major crossroads at night when it's quiet where the main carriageway is always green and the minor roads flash amber so you treat these as a junction. It stops this silly system where you are driving through a town late at night with no other traffic and have to keep stopping at red lights.

You would have noticed if it had gone off... as garyinderry said, they are pretty powerful flashes even in broad daylight.

If it changed to red as you were crossing the line as you suspect, then you should be ok. I have seen an NIP that has been sent out for one of these and there are various tolerances built into the cameras which is how they decided the level of any sanction that is handed out. The penalty for a red light is £100 and 3 points endorsed on your driving licence, unless you are within the tolerances that are set out, in which case they may offer a driver awareness course.

If it was on amber as you crossed though, I wouldn't worry!

Out of interest, what was the speed limit and how fast were you going? Amber lights stay on for about 3 seconds which is plenty of time to stop providing your far enough away to stop before the line (without standing on the brakes) and are doing 40mph or under.

There was a set of lights somewhere a few years back that had a dodgy delay on them.
Tests proved it was impossible to safely stop behind the line as the gap between amber and red was too short for the 60mph limit.
If you crossed on amber then you should be ok
