Tottenham Riots.

Reeves Corner in Croydon has been a family furniture shop since the 1860s.

It's ashes tonight.

I'm sad to be a Londoner tonight.
Forgive my ignorance AW dont know London at all .. Is there any trouble near Putney ?? have friends there ,, they actualy moving home in cpl a weeks ..

The PM is on holiday, Boris Johnson is better on holiday and they got rid of the police chief a few weeks back. When the cats away.

Don't worry the PM is rushing back to chair a meeting FFS he would be better suited getting a whacking big water cannon out.

Nowhere near Putney - far too nice an area.

It's in Tottenham, Hackney, Croydon, Clapham, Lewisham and Ilford

It seems to be North, East and South London - West London appears to be untouched.

It is spreading though........

They've gone for JD sports in B'ham.....must be stupid. :o :D

The riots in Tottenham started when Harry Redknapp claimed he was interested in signing Heskey.

The riots in Birmingham started when he changed his mind.

Thanks Mate, wouldnt know london despite having been over ha .. Everton fan but my mate gets tickets for the cottage .. lovely ground to watch a game as a neutral,, hopefuly trouble settles soon

just seen on sky news some girl saying that by robbing currys they were getting their taxes back, makes no sense at all. they clearly have no clue as to what there doing and are just ruining people lives!!

Just watching it on the news. This seems to be very similar to the riots in Belfast over the last while. No message being fought for just mindless violence for the sake of violence. Also seems to be a excuse to go in and raid shops.

Martial law will be in place within 48 hours and then the army will go in hard at people. Its shocking to watch and you know full well that these people are doing this just because others are and they want to get something for nothing not for the original reason it all kicked off.

SCUM

Watching the riots has been an eye-opener,with all the cuts you can already see we are under policed.
Its really sad to see,and peoples lives are being put in danger.
These people need to be brought to justice quickly.
As i said in a previous post,"whats the world coming too"
A sad advert for London and the olympics.
The army have to come in and then you will see the low lifes squirm away into there little holes.

The Army are massively overstretched as well. We can't fight the wars overseas effectively because of the cuts.

This is a wake up call to ALL the politicians that the people have had enough.

We need to stop giving money abroad and use it to help our issue here. We give India financial aid - why? They recently spent £1,000,000,000 on the Commonwealth games!!!

We, as a nation, have our own problems which will not go away and cannot be ignored.

A massive big up to the Police force and the emergency services for their unbelievable performance last night.

I fear there may be more riots though.

I don't always agree with everything you saw AW, but that is right on the money.

My only fear is that although this SHOULD be the wake up call the Politicians need, it won't be and nothing will change. :(

The trouble is, the vast majority of these scum will laugh at help. They have been brought up to expect everything for nothing and they are going to take any opportunity to do so.
Decent, law abiding citizens wouldn't be doing this.
Shoot the [****] lot of them. They are absolutely no good to this country.

I am sorry but I cannot support some of the vituperative and obtuse comments being put forward on this thread. When riots take place anywhere hysteria takes over and people forget what started the riot and what caused it to escalate. Instead they focus on those that jump on the bandwagon and take advantage of the situation for their own gain. In Egypt there was looting and robbery but what won over that was the fact that the media focus was on the overthrow of Mubarek, whose regime was frowned upon by the West.

We have rising unemployment and inflation. We have a reduction in benefits. We have increases in VAT and the removal of the Educational Maintenance Allowance. We have economic experts who have consistently warned that the austerity measures would cause most harm to the most marginalised and impoverished in society. We have significant cuts in public services. Rioting occurs when the underpriviledged reach a point when they feel they have nothing to lose.

WHat sparked the unrest was the shooting of a local man Mark Duggan on Thursday as they tried to arrest him. An illegal gun was found at the scene. That was the spark, what you are witnessing now is a mixture of released frustration by a forgotten youth who have no job prospects and are living on the breadline, coupled to opportunists that are using the smokescreeen of the riots to conduct various nefarious activities.

I am not condoning the violence nor belittling the substantial losses incurred by innocent people who have been caught in the crossfire. But I am saying that huge swathes of the population do not understand the challenges being faced by those on the fringes of society and yet are quick to judge. Walk a mile in their shoes and perhaps you might understand or alternatively you can continue the "shoot the scum" rhetoric which is clearly far more sophisticated debate.

Edit By the way I suggest those of you on twitter look at the #riotcleanup and #riotwombles hashtags which were started by young people
