Tottenham Riots.

I appreciate that some have a difficult start in life, have a broken home and have no prospects. However these are facts that don't excuse looting, violence and rioting.

Fundamentally it's a choice of right or wrong, a disadvantaged background doesn't excuse knowingly engaging in illegal, anti social behaviour. If there was a significant consequence many wouldn't engage in what they are doing.

If you asked a rioter why they are doing it, do you really think they would list social disaffection as a reason?

It seems easy to look for excuses and explanations. Maybe it’s not that complex, they are mindless, retarded sheep that want to nick stuff.

I agree Homer.

I got tear-gassed in a city not in this country. Not nice. It split up the crowd in minutes and nobody complained.

We are pussy-footing around on this.

London is clear (to my knowledge) but Birmingham is suffering...

Sorry Smiffy but the opportunites and support that you had in your childhood is just not comparable

Opportunities and support Tiger?
Sorry mate, you're having a laugh.
One of seven kids dragged up almost single handedly by my Mum on one of the roughest council estates in Tunbridge Wells.
My old man was a right bastard to her, he was never at home and finally left for good when I was about 9.
Clothes handouts from the WRVS and had to wear wellie boots during the Summer because she couldn't afford to buy shoes for us to wear.
But despite everything, as I said in my earlier post, we were taught right from wrong.
My old mum died in 1993. But right up until the end she was so proud of her kids....seven of us and despite our upbringing she went to her grave knowing that not one of us had ever been in trouble with the Police. Ever.
Thats the difference. Family values.

Smiffy. From what you have written your mum did a sterling job. Battling against seemingly impossible odds and doing right by all her children. I bet you were a tight knit family as well and all still hold a cherished memory of the love and devotion of your mother. Despite your tough start in life, it was the unswerving affection of an amazing woman that got you through. Now I want you to be honest to yourself and ask what if your mum hadn't been so attentive and devoted? What if circumstances had driven her to drink and drugs rather than hardening her resolve? Would you still be the stand up guy you are now?

An opportunity can be as simple as a single teacher that devotes a little more time to a struggling student and support could be a parent that defies all the odds to give their children the best start in life they can muster. It's small things that you may think are insignificant that can define who a person grows to be.

I know someone who is taking the law into her own hands...

Listen to this crap....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14458424

"It's the rich people". "It's the governments fault. Conservative....or whoever".
They don't even know who the government are!!!!

Amazing. And the worst thing?
When they get pregnant (which they will and they'll be sponging off the state) the scum they have will have exactly the same attitude.
Makes me ashamed to call myself English.

Said the very same to the wife last night.

Scares the bejesus out of me to think that the vast majority of these people will become parents.

What sort of values are they going to instill in their kids?

Is there a reason that the majority of the looters pictured are black?

Editorial preference. Picture lots of white people and you'll sell less papers

Really?

Director preference for the live camera shots as well?

Surprises me,whether it's a white or black person on the front page would not influence me buying a rag.

Not sure if that is a tongue in cheek answer to a genuine question Tiger?

A lot of the poorer parts of London happen to be populated by non whites. If the TV / press are filming riots there, then they can only film what they see.

If I walk down the A5 Edgware Road from work at lunch time, if I see any white people at all (and it is not unusual to not see any), they are normally Russian or Eastern European.

My 10-year old daughter heard that and said that it would be really funny if someone went round to that girl's house, smashed it up and stole all her stuff.

Funny? I'd probably die laughing.

There is a story coming out that three coppers were apparently filmed beating someone up. They need to be identified and fast.

And given a medal. And then the film made into training for all the other police who are having to put up with god knows what being thrown at them.

Sorry for the liberals in the audience but as someone else put on this forum, your human rights go out the window when you wrap a scarf round your face and start chucking bricks at the police.

Ian Tomlinson?

He was the Millwall fan who walked through the anti-capitalist riots, right?
