Top 5 Wanted

Bearwood Lakes
Belfry PGA National
Woburn -don't mind which
Ellesborough
Blackmoor - for the meet.

If I can get to play 3 of them I'll be happy.

I notice a few guys here arnt even willing to travel outside their county nevermind sample some of the best clubs/courses in the world, and we thought the yanks were bad! :P

The OP said realistic, not a dream list.
It is realistic, I played Spey, Castle Stuart, Nairn and Baltry (Co. Louth GC) last year, none of which are anywhere near my locality (different countries in fact!) and was all done to a very reasonable budget.
Remember this is your top 5, they are good because you think they are, that means you will go that extra to play them and maybe take in a couple of courses to make it even more worthwhile.
Now Sun City, Valderamma, Pebble Beach etc, they are unrealistic unless you were going that far on holiday.

Keeping it mostly local, I'd go for

1/ Trevose
2/ St Enodoc
3/ Perranporth
4/ St Mellion
5/ Dalit Bay, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo

First 4 pretty reasonable with winter fees, and can play 18 holes at the first 2 in open comps for £16.

As a follow on from the top 5 played thread i was thinking about the 5 i would like to play that are realistic to funds etc..

1.Old Course
2.Muirfiled
3.Carnoustie
4.Turnberry
5.Ganton

What courses would you like to play in the coming year(s)???

I think your definition of realistic to funds is different to mine. Isn't Carnoustie £130 a round ? and i imagine the other Scottish ones must be similar ?

I dont think 130 is unreasonable to pay for a game of golf on those types of courses, especially as golf is the only sport i really play. I am not a big spender on anything else but golf so if thats whats to pay thats what i will pay.

I happen to know a very good golf tour company that arranges great golfing holidays at bargain basement prices and all aspect of the tour are encountered an maticulously planned to the very finest detail ;)

I had an e-mail from my club recently saying that there is a publication coming out soon (can't remember which one)which gives the top 100 clubs in the UK that you can play for less than £80. Should be interesting and Blackmoor is in it !! Think these courses will be more in my price bracket. ;)

Can you post the list when available.

For GM staff: Isn't that a worthwhile idea to grab?

Will do Bernix.

H'cap permitting for the first three (need to be back off of 3) these little beauties will be played VERY, VERY cheaply next year.

Sunningdale - Mid Age Open
St Georges Hill - Mid Age Open
Purdis Heath (Ipswich) - Mid Age Open
Bearwood Lakes - Trilby Tour
Brocket Hall - Good mate taking a teaching job there.

Good call on Purdis Heath Robo , I was only looking at this comp a couple of days ago too. Cant find it now though , is it the Silver Barrel one youre playing in ? Thats only about £30 or so isnt it ? Fabulous deal and by all accounts a terrific course with loads of nasty gorse bushes everywhere. One place I keep meaning to get to as I only live an hour away

That's the kiddy. Just have to tie in a bit of work in the area to get the hotel and travel payed for. ;)

Oh, and the small matter of shaving a shot off the h'cap.

isnt it max 8 h/c Robo ?

It is but you won't get in off 8 - you should get in off 4 Robo, shouldn't you?

I think it depends which course it goes to a bit. I just got balloted out last year but then it was @ Sherwood Forest so it was fairly easy to get to and a lovely course. it was 3.4 if memory serves me right.
I would have got in the year before @ Siloth but would have needed 3 weeks off and an extra camel to make the journey!! :D

All these top 5 threads have done have made me realise how little golf courses I've played and how many I wish to play...and it saddens me :(

At least I've played Woodhall Spa

I've been playing for thirty years and I think the best course I've played is Langley Park...

No offence to Langley Park... :)

No offence taken AW!
ps. A good taste in football clubs as well I see as well.
