Got to the course today thinking I was going up to 6 from 5....nope. I don't know when/how but they (Oakdale) just posted a whole new handicap index. I stayed at 5 shots (meaning I lost 1) but almost everybody I was playing with lost 2 shots....they were a bit shocked. I didn't know they were having the course rechecked......although it sounds like maybe a bunch of the area courses are being rechecked. If the rumor mill is working properly, Pannal is now the easiest course in the area.

Did the CRs change or just the SR - or both.

We had a re-rating lat last year that came into effect end March. Our CRs went up as did our SRs. Most members handicaps went up two shots - some three - overnight. Winning Stableford pts have increased and winning Netts have decreased.

The Yorkshire Course Rating i/c is a member at Oakdale (now Ripon) but he would not have been allowed to be involved. He took over from me some years ago.

I've no idea....somebody said something with numbers and I just let it pass through the brain without caring. I just turn in cards and let the magic of the computer decide what handicap I have.

We had a re rating a couple of years ago, both CR and SR were reduced, everyone lost shots and as the change started to reflect in Indexes nearly everyone went up. I made an almost 2 shot difference to me and I was under 10 at the time

Oakdale was 71.6/137 (W) and 70.0/133 (Y); after re-rating it's now 71.2/129 (W) and 69.4/127.
Argggg....numbers. Whooooosh!!..in one ear and out the other without even touching a brain cell.....:). I've made a conscious decision this year to play hardly any comps, but I do turn in cards pretty well every time I play at Oakdale. At Ripon I pretty much only play in rollups and don't bother. I let my lowest 8 decide my fate....and right now my fate has jumped from 4.6 to 6.2....curses.

We are having the second of two visits in a couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see if there are any changes.

My course (in North Yorks) was re-done this year and most lost between 1 and 2 shots.

I was told that the initial ratings were quite soft to ease people and clubs into the new process. The re-ratings are tougher (effectively giving you fewer shots for your handicap).

In Yorkshire, you can check the YUGC website for when the club is due a review

Have you got the link address?

The Yorkshire Executive member who is responsible for rating was I believe a member at Oakdale. Ripon now though. Perhaps the ratings didn't suit his game
Well, since I'm also a member at Ripon......it isn't me. I don't know diddle about anything. Although I think I might now be getting the same amount of shots at both courses. When I was playing well a month+ ago I was down to 4.6 and getting 4 shots at Oakdale and 3 at Ripon. After a couple more cards put in (if I don't pull out of my golf funk) I'll be 6 at Oakdale and probably 5 at Ripon.

We were re-rated about 18 months ago...

Par 70 except for the ladies playing off the yellows.

Mens White rating went from 68.7/124 (BR 91.7) to 69/120 (BR 91.3)
Mens Yellow went from 67.3/119 (BR 89.4) to 67.7/118 (BR 89.6)
Ladies Red rating went from 69.9/121 (BR 98.4) to 70/117 (BR 97.5)

We also have new rating for the Ladies off the Yellows (72.7/123 - par 72 BR 101.6) and the Men off the Reds (64.5/115 BR 85.8).
