i.i.r.c. there is some difference between the "response time" on plasma or lcd. Plasma has the capability to not lose detail for the split second it takes an lcd to make the pixel active/inactive.
What this means to tv buyers is that as the screen gets bigger, it starts to become more readily noticeable. TVs seem to come in "set" sizes (I don't know why) but from 8"-32" LCD is fine, and probably cheaper. 37" and up, Plasma is the way to go (apparently).
Not so long ago some plasmas had pretty poor pictures in the 40"-50" bracket, but from what I can tell, this is history.

My Panny is fantastic. Only had it a couple of weeks and at first it took me a while to adjust after having an LCD. But whether it's my eyes adjusting or just the set "bedding in" it gets better and better.
Blu ray and HD broadcasts (when they are on) are fantastic, standard definition is hit and miss depending on which channel you are watching but as I say, that is due to the crap compression ratio of certain channels, not a fault of the television.
We watched Happy Feet over Christmas which I don't think was a HD broadcast, and it was fantastic. PQ was top notch almost HD in it's clarity.
You are right about the amount of "lag" being less on a Plasma than an LCD, but to be honest I don't notice this. I have noticed I don't get half as many banding issues that I did with my LCD on bright subject matter though (camera into the sun that sort of thing).
It's early days yet but so far I would say Plasma is winning for me over LCD.

If you can afford it, get this Pioneer KURO KRP-600P

The best TV out just now bar none. Shame it's 5G, but a few sales of the VE's will make a dent in that.

I've just bought a 40" Samsung LED backlit, and I'm really impressed with it. I wish it was only 20% more than the same size LCD though.

In the Curry's and PC World I went to they both had 3 screens (1 of each type, plasma, LCD, LED) set up one above the other showing the pros and cons of each with the same pictures.
Worth looking out for if you're not sure what the differences between the different types mean to the picture.

Trouble is, the likes of Currys/PC World/Comet will have the televisions brightness ramped up to the highest settings and they will most probably be set on "dynamic" mode to counter the harsh shop lighting. The settings that most of these TV's are on would bear no relationship to how they would be set up in the average living room. If you took one of them home and kept the same settings as the shop had them on, you would most probably need welders goggles to watch them!! My Panny came with two main settings at initial set up, "Store" or "Home"...the store setting would have automatically increased colour, brightness and contrast to high settings.I dread to think what it would have looked like.
LCD & LED televisions will always look slightly better under these circumstances compared to a dimly lit living room during the evening.
This is where the better blacks of a plasma come into their own.

I was in Comet just before Christmas buying a new kettle. As I stood in the queue waiting to pay, a salesman was selling some poor sucker a load of cables for a TV he had just purchased.
"Of course you will need an HDMI cable Sir, and an optical cable, along with a surge protector etc".
I think the poor git got stuffed with about £250.00 worth of cabling that he didn't need.
£55.00 for an HDMI lead!! My three cost me just over £7.00 each from Asda and have never given a moments problems.

That is so funny! LOL.... :D

What always makes me laugh is that the big shops are always trying to sell you some "super-cable" for £149.99, and yet a quick mooch round the back of the tv's shows they're plugged in with bog standard kit.

I bought an ipod touch for the missus and the shop tried to sell me some chargers, one for mains and one for car. Seemed a good idea, as only usb is not that useful.

Apple mains/usb charger £22.00 - I got one for £3.60
