Just watched Tiger knock it to 5/6 foot on 11th Stricker lines up putt Tiger helps but with his putter in hand, wouldn't fill me with confidence if my playing partner done that, plants the seed of doubt.

ye but your not in the top 10 players on tour with a putting average of 1.74.

Tigers helps line up then stands next to caddy but should expect not to putt

I would have just told my partner I have not bothered to get my putter, so its down to him to finish it off.

A little pressue in golf is always good. (however maybe not at the ryder cup)

Tiger having his putter wouldn't bother a fellow pro in the slightest.

I think the whole argument is a total non-starter. I can't see any pro giving two hoots whether their partner is holding a putter or not. Clearly 95% of the time, the ball will be close enough for a gimme, but carrying a putter and being ready just in case is good form if you ask me. Then again, I play at a rather different level. I hold my putter routinely in matchplay pairs.....first game of the club pairs my partner and I decided to carry all the time and not take it personally...ever...

the reason is psychological - the pro feels like he can see the line better if it is him taking the putt, hence he holds his putter.

There was one hole where harrington actually asked his caddie to bring him his putter in fourballs, when he'd already picked up for that reason.

There was also a time near the end of the round where G Mac had a 15 footer and McIlroy had his arms crossed and putter in the bag, right decision because he holed it.

I must be honest I did see a good few times where both players had their putters out from similar or shorter distance. so I sit corrected.

I never did, to show my partner the confidence I had in him and yes on the odd occasion I had to go back to my bag to get it not many tho.
