This is getting silly now (conditions)

Well in heading up to North Scotland tomorrow and have the clubs packed so I hope there's some decent weather to get a couple of rounds in. Personally I've loved this hot spell as I've managed to squeeze loads of golf in. 4 rounds so far this week.

We had our club champs this weekend, course is playing great. Fairways are firm, greens are fast, true and receptive. It's easy to blame conditions but if you hit good shots, you will get good results, if you don't you won't.

Good to hear - ours is next week so should be good fun - they are certainly putting lots of water down to get the greens receptive but nice a fast

The course was as good as I've seen it this week. Greens were officially 10.2 today according to the greenkeeper and as smooth as they have been. The pin placements were interesting without being farcical and the firm conditions meant you really had to think your way round. Two bad holes today and yesterday scuppered by hopes but that was my own incompetence and nothing to do with the course.

I don't mind the course firming up. Happy to play the chip and run, take less club off the tee and adjust the clubbing into greens. All part of the challenge and don't forget in a few months we're be layering up or ripping each others virtual head off on here frustrated the course is snowed closed

Glad yours are, ours got treated a few weeks ago then dried out too much. We now have a fair bit of what appears to be disease on them, patches that have become a little sunken and are then dried out and the grass is dying. they look hideous and are starting to deteriorate, and its hard to see how they improve in the short term. they are belatedly putting more water on them but a bit worried the horse may have bolted :(

Also a few of the new tees are in definite need of more water, again looking burnt out already, not ideal considering how little time theyve been there.

Fairways running as fast as ever, would prefer they left a little more grass on them personally.

Overall Im probably being a little harsh but course sadly not at its best at the moment (having been excellent only 4 or 5 weeks ago). We could certainly do with some rain this week, sadly the forecast looks very dry again

That's a shame as the course was really improving in recent years

It appears we have stopped being scared of using the sprinkler system and also have run some hoses out to fairways as well ! It unheard off

Hopefully only a temporary blip as you say, course has made great progress in recent years for sure.

We have a water allowance, they are always scared we will exceed it and never get close to using it all!. Think the owner of our place would have a heart attack if someone told him theyd watered the fairways lol

As much as the belfry gets slatted this is when i love being a member. They deluge our greens with water at night and at dawn. Always nice and receptive

We had greenstaff on nightshift watering our greens, as we don't have an automatic timer system.

Easier said than done , to adapt that is.

Sure, when it's rock hard (like my home club is slowly becoming) you hope that the green staff get remotely sensible with pin placements. I'm all for challenging conditions, but it needs to fair at the same time.

Think there is some forecast tonight and maybe tomorrow - certainly need to keep the greens hydrated ( optimum is 20-30% moisture levels

Its lovely down here in Poole , course is firm and fast and calls for better course management hence i am hitting more 5 woods off the tee as for the firm and fast greens , dont expect those hard rocks you play with to stop , I use a prov 1 and if struck right will stop , I am playing 3 to 4 times every week and just loving it and my new clubs are going well , Long may this weather carry on so stop moaning and enjoy it or take up a full time job with lots of overtime and earn money ...............................EYG

Before golf greens were watered the greenkeepers had a saying that 'a guid old drought will sort it out'

In effect a drought would kill off all the course [rough] grasses and leave only the fine leaved varieties.
Nature has been around for quite a while and usually knows how to sort itself out.

Loving the conditions at the moment. Longest drive is up, GIR is up and my game is as good as it's ever been.
Stop moaning and get on with it.
