Is anyone else getting sick of Wood's petulance?

I watched a fair bit of it last week and from what I saw Tiger was in much more control of his driving. Not seeming to smash the hell out of every drive.

Didn't see any problem with his on course behaviour, except for spitting, which a lot of American golfers have the habit of doing.

When watching it live you sometimes get to see more between tee to next shot and it was nice to see how he was laughing and joking with Mcilroy as they were walking together.

I have to say at times he does appear to be a miserable so and so but aren't we all at times when things don't go the way we would like and expect.

So it seems he now has his driving sorted and you can bet your life he will come back next time with a much improved putting game. He'll be working hard on this, as IMHO, it's what let him down last week.

If he gets his putter working how it used to....................

I haven't seen any petulance whatsover recently, and nor do I see much relevance in re-hashing what happened 2 years ago which has been well documented elsewhere and discussed at length here.

Implying that an occasional outward show of frustration makes for a bad role model for kids is wide of the mark too IMO. The guy is striving to be the best in the world (again) at what he does, he works phenomenally hard at his game, always has done, perhaps even to his cost in other aspects of life, he is totally rebuilding his swing (again) and shows incredible focus, concentration and determination when on the course. Admirable qualities for any professional.

Love him or hate him the game was poorer without him.

When you're used to excellence it must be annoying to fail once in a while (I wouldn't know, never failed at anything, just changed my end goal ;))

I'd act like the biggest kid out on tour...sod all the ladedar stuck up clubs! John daly all the way, whack all the balls into a lake and bugger off to the bar! I'd also donate money to the none la-de-dar clubs because I can't stand how they can be so stuck up. So investing the common man who doesn't have a membership and plays on a budget.

Obviously the guy can do no wrong in some peoples eyes!

Don't get me wrong I would like nothing more than Tiger to beat uncle Jack's Major record of 18, and for him to get back to being World No.1. I just dont condone petulance AGAIN whether it be Tiger, Sergio or whoever, but (and someone as rightly said that every one of Tiger shots is shown on TV and highlighted more) he does appear to have outbursts MORE than anybody else, which for kids to see (and kids replicate their idols) is not great.

TW appears to have more outbursts than anybody else is because he has more coverage than anybody else combined. If someone like Westwood had the coverage of Tiger's, it would appear he would seem to lose his rag more.
Did you watch Rory through rounds 3 and 4? Young lad was having a right strop.

And all this replicating their idols malarky, its not TW's job to raise your kids. You don't like your child to throw a club or spit, then you teach your child that.

Not a fan of TW as a person.

His facial expression is usually unhappy boarding on angry, the only time he smiles if holes out from 150 yards plus.
As said before he spits, his attitude to spectators seems to be one of annoyance, they just get in his way and generally irritate him..

I noticed when he teed off on the final round at abu dubai, after the usual applause and cheers he gave no form of acknowledgement, not even a raised hand.

You would think we would have at least done a little PR even if it was just a raise of the hand after his huge appearance fee.

But he was the only one of the final three ball to acknowledge the crowd on the final green? Even took his hat off. Now you can excuse rocky, as he was trying to win the comp, and was all focused, but what about Hanson? Nothing on here about him.

just what i saw....

i have on rare occasions seen him begrudgingly acknowledge the crowd, (not at abu dubai btw)

i don't like him, i think he is petulant, rude etc which i find very hard to understand

an unbiased opinion formed over the years of watching him

Sorry, perhaps I should get on the "lets have a dig at Faldo" brigade?

You are missing the point 'ROLE MODEL/KIDS'.

As for your "get a grip man, theres more to worry about than tiger having a tantrum" comment, well obviously another pro Tiger fan i.e. "i made a point of watching because he was playing..." and I also like to protect defenseless animals from idiots with guns if I can.

I can't stand Tiger Woods but am growing equally tired of threads on the forum about the man. Loads don't like him. Loads do. Some, like me, think he is utterly charmless and lacks any class. Others think he is awesome and wish they could have his life. It is a polarised argument with no middle ground so what is the point? Search for historical threads on this and you will find all the same opinions as those in this thread. The whole thing seems a waste of time and effort really.

Of course, by even contributing to this I am contradicting my point but the above was a secondary reason for posting. The main reason was just to say that I regularly shoot defenceless animals with guns and don't necessarily think that makes me an idiot. Do you fancy 9 holes at some point soon to discuss?

Cheers,

Snelly.

I knew you wouldn't let me down Snelly :whoo: Check out the sporting game thread in the OOB, it's right up your street.

Don't want to be accused of thread jacking, so Tiger Woods. It's old news. Scowling, spitting, club chucking he's done it for years, he's not changing.

I didn't like the hypocrisy of his pretend life. Otherwise I'm indifferent

Gladly, but dont bring your gun! It's my opinion that I dont like it and dont give a stuff. You are also entitled to your opinion/beliefs, thats life.

So everyone is tired of threads about the most commercially publicised golfer of our generation? Arent there a million and one threads on this forum on types of golf ball, gps etc etc which seem to pop up every five minutes, search those on historical threads??

Everyone is stating that they did not see anything from Woods last weekend, well I saw him slam his driver into the ground and the same with an iron on one of the fairways. I cant remember which round and which hole as it really doesnt matter.

Quite simply I like Tiger, and wish him well, I just feel that when he throws a strop it:-
A) Lowers my opinion of him
B) Think it gives the wrong message to kids (as kids emulate their heroes)
C) Can be danagerous

Enough said from me now as I'm getting bored, thats just my opinion.

I do however agree that his general demeanour has been very good and it was good to see he and Rory having a good laugh together, and thought he was great towards Rocky on the last too.

But Tiger wasn't the only one who did this was he? I saw others do the same, one of them actually inbedded his iron into the fairway, can't remember who but it wasn't Woods. I remember thinking at the time " I bet that doesn't get mentioned on the forum."

Most of the players have outbursts of frustration, Tiger regularly gets pulled up for dropping his club over his back after a poor shot but others do exactly the same, I've seen mcilroy do exactly this, I've seen Sergio throw his iron into a lake.

I really don't know why you needed to make your post a direct attack at Tiger's behaviour, you might see him do it more because you see more of him but it is stupid and naive to think he is the only one.

Well with a thread titled the way it is, it would certainly seem so.

It does fell awfully like a time machine though, why drag it up again now?

Personally I could't care less about Tigers attitude, his various misdameanors on and off the course, or those of other players.

They are golfers, not rolemodels. If kids are doing the things they see pro golfers do their parents should stop them. and if the parents don't know they are doing it on the golf course the junior organisers and club pro's should advise them.

It is the family that should be rolemodels not people from TV.

.

I think the days of TW being portrayed as a role model for kids are long gone.

middle aged blokes with a soft spot for waitresses maybe.... but not kids

You might want to think a little harder before starting a thread then, it is after all titled "Is anyone else getting sick of Wood's petulance?"

And you might want to read through the posts! Yes, the main premise of the thread was Tiger's petulance but as I have stated dont think that he is the only one. Which also answers the other quote by the previous post by Hawkeye.

The title seems pretty self explanatory - Woods' petulance. Yes there are plenty of others that do it but it seems to be him that gets singled out for the flak. As for whether he's a role model or not, I think you need to look up the Woods Foundation on the internet and read about the work that has done to change the lives of many children over the years and the vast amount of his money he's put into it to see that, aside from his sex life, he's a pretty damn fine role model actually.

I'd go as far as to say that whilst he isn't the aspirational figure he was, there are still many kids around the world that would be hard pressed to name another golfer other than him and for many he still represents a lot of what is good in golf. Kids aren't as prejudiced as adults and so if their hero is playing good golf (and he is again ) then that is all they care about. Perhaps we need to take a leaf out of their book

Perhaps I should have started a 'Tiger is God' thread?

Drag it up? I'm sorry but if I had seen this thread before, obviously I would not have posted. I have not posted this to 'Stir' things up as somebody has stated. I have not been on here long and dont check the site many times a day like most.

Crikey isnt the whole point of 'Forums' to open up debate and give your views/opinions? Perhaps I should stick to 'Why do they put so many dimples on a golf ball?' and not condone the great man!
