Is anyone else getting sick of Wood's petulance?

yet somehow you have managed to miss out sergio throwing his iron into the pond......

who cares, the throwing of the club into the crowd was obviously a mistake, not that he didn't mean to throw the club but he would have never of meant to throw it in the crowd.

Dont get me wrong guys Tiger is one of many that throw strops on a golf course these days, however, being a role model to more than most others i.e. Garcia, Tiger seems to have a paddy in EVERY single game he plays.

However, I will agree that at least he is showing passion and he seems to leave it on the course. But, what I do disagree with (and I am only highlighting Tiger as he seems to be do it more than others) is that this is meant to be a GENTLEMANS game, with so many rules and regulations i.e. Dress Codes, etiquette etc surely petulance has no place in this great game........and that includes Sergio or whoever else.

The main reason it seems Tiger's doing it more than anyone else is because you'll see him hit every shot. Every single one. There's not another player that you'll see that much. So every time Tiger throws his toys out, it gets covered.
To my mind, if all he's doing is banging the driver on the deck or trying to decapitate invisible petunias then there's no real harm done - lets face it, most if not all of us have done the same during a comp. It's taking things out on the course like Sergio did in the bunker that should be avoided.

I cant help but feel we've been sucked into a time warp here, you are complaining about something from 2 years ago? he hasnt done anything wrong this past few months since starting back so I dont see what the problem is unless you just have your big spoon out labelled "the big STIR!"

Agreed... Lock the thread ;)

I just love to see Tiger having a strop, his favourite phrase" goddamite tiger" you stupid fother~~~~~~~~ yust sets me of laughing out loud,he gets on to the tee,a couple of practice swings then BANG!! another crap tee shot..

How?

"and that includes Sergio or whoever else"

well your original post was aimed at tiger and tiger only.you'd think he was the only player who showed this kind of emotion on the course.get a grip man, there's more things to worry about than tiger having a tantrum.

Obviously the guy can do no wrong in some peoples eyes!

Don't get me wrong I would like nothing more than Tiger to beat uncle Jack's Major record of 18, and for him to get back to being World No.1. I just dont condone petulance AGAIN whether it be Tiger, Sergio or whoever, but (and someone as rightly said that every one of Tiger shots is shown on TV and highlighted more) he does appear to have outbursts MORE than anybody else, which for kids to see (and kids replicate their idols) is not great.

I have no issues with the current Tiger. I'd be happy for my son to grow up with him as a role model.... so he had some sex and chucked a few clubs.... big deal.

I have more of an issue with the knob at the local club who chucks his clubs because he missed a putt for a 7-for-1pt

You know what, I'm actually starting to warm to the guy.

I never played or watched Tiger at the height of his career, but obviously knew about him.

Yeah, he gets frustrated with himself when he plays a bad shot. I know I do as well. No biggie.

Don't like the spitting.

But the thing that has started to warm me to him is he seemed genuinely pleased that Robert had won. He just seems to be a more open person now and that's all down to his downfall. I honestly think he's seen the error of his ways.

I was very sceptical to start with, it all looked like an act. But the more I watch him the more I think he is a changed man. Yes, still 100% focussed on winning. But he seems to be enjoying playing again and enjoying the company.

Sorry, perhaps I should get on the "lets have a dig at Faldo" brigade?

You are missing the point 'ROLE MODEL/KIDS'.

As for your "get a grip man, theres more to worry about than tiger having a tantrum" comment, well obviously another pro Tiger fan i.e. "i made a point of watching because he was playing..." and I also like to protect defenseless animals from idiots with guns if I can.

another thing about his spitting,he got caught out on the green and that was bang out of order but players like dustin johnson and jason dufner spit more than tiger, jason dufner reminds me of a guy chewing chewing tobacco and spitting it out.

fair enough these guys don't do it on the green but they do it much more than tiger does elsewhere on the course.

Back in the day Big Jack was thought of as aloof and unfriendly, but professional and focused.

Then as his powers slowly waned he relaxed more on the course and more and more people got to like him, rather than just respect him.

I see Tiger as having the chance to take this path. I didn't see much of the golf over the weekend, but I'm sure it would have been all over here and the papers if he had done anything mega bad.

So, no, I'm not getting cheesed off with him, I'm hoping he's mellowing into his old age.

But that clip of Sergio justifying himself, saying his spitting is no problem and didn't affect anyone else......If I'd been the next person picking a ball out of that hole, I'd have rubbed my hands all over his face to clean them.

Disgusting git.

I have to say I get more sick of hearing that than Tiger having the occasional tantrum when he hits a "poor" shot. First and foremost his job is a professional golfer NOT a role model. If people think their kids will suffer unduly by seeing a sportsman berate himself for a poor performance then heaven help us all but just in case they can switch the TV off !

Quality post, well said!

Im firmly with Brendy on this one, this season (so far) Tiger has been more relaxed, has signed autographs and looked more at ease with himself.

we havnt seen any tantrums, or spitting, Thats not to say that it wont happen, but you have to give the bloke a chance.

I think that the OP is looking at an overview of the last 3 years without looking at the last 3 months, give the bloke some slack, yes if he is a bad boy, then its fair to criticise, But I think we need to give him time to check if A tiger has changed his stripes.

Fragger

Agreed, but just like violence on TV kids still watch it!

John Terry and Luis Suarez are STILL professional footballers but at least the authorties are doing something about it. What Tiger has done is NOWHERE near as bad but when he nearly takes someones head off then someone should have a quiet word before it gets out of hand, thats all.

I'm still having £10 on Tiger to win The Masters!

Fair point.

Very strange timing and I can't help feeling its just an excuse to get another Tiger thread going as they seem great at polarising opinion. He was exemplary last week and did more media work, signed more autograph and did pretty well at the day job too. Why bring up issues from the past on the back of that.

If you dig deep enough, most players have behaved in a poor manner on the course including the greats of yesteryear except there wasn't a camera in their face on every shot, instant character assasination in the medio and social networks. I like a player to get angry if he hits a bad shot. It shows he cares and isn't just there riding a very lucrative gravy train. The spitting I could do without but again it seems to be endemic to the American players and those preciding on their tour more than European golfers and as others have said may stem from baseball where they could fill a spittoon but the bottom of the 1st

I say leave Tiger be and let his golf do the talking. What is done is done and its about what he does on the course that matters and to be honest I couldn't care what happens when he's sunk the last putt and cant see the point is dissecting it on here as we've no insight into what really goes on
