Myself and a couple of mates handed our third card today,im
pretty exited as to what handicap i will end up with and more importantly-whether i can play to it! Handed in a 98,a 95 and today a 93,our course is a par 72.might enter saturdays medal!!

The handicap will be calculated from the course SSS (Standard Scratch Score) and not Par. The SSS should be on the card somewhere.

If the H/cap Secretary checks the card box regularly you should have your h/cap by Saturday. Some only check it when a competition has been played and therefore you might not have your h/cap by Saturday. May be worth a call to inform him that you have put in your third card and are looking to play on Saturday

I thought they took the best score you recorded on each of the times you have played the holes. so you could have 6 holes from each of the 3 cards you have put in, and if you have totally messed any hole up on each of the 3 occasions they will record you a score of a double bogey.
So say on a par 4 you have have recorded a 7 and two 8's they will give you a 6.

Well I think thats how it works, if so dont be surprised if you are a little lower than the 21 mentioned earlier.

Whatever the calculation used to derive the end number enjoy getting it and get in as many comps as you can so you can work towards getting it down. Isn't that the real aim for any golfer?

At least you'll still have the firm fairways and extra roll to help and I hope you can pick up some prizes on the way down. Keep us posted on what they give you!

Bonkers...

This would have given me a h'cap of 5......

Best card of the three, bad holes reduced to double bogeys, take the SSS for the tees used (NOT the par) and also take into account previous playing history if available.

I'm not fussed what they give me really but i am exited as by handing my cards in after playing regular for 2 years i feel as i'm getting somewhere! Like everyone i get a few nerves before teeing off on the 1st but i used to cr*p myself and worry who was watching, hoping i dont duff my tee shot.I've now realised there are a lot worse than me and ive played with more talented golfers than me and they cock shots up aswell, something recently has 'clicked' and i now believe i know what i'm doing!! I will let you guys know my 1st handicap soon as.
