Blowing a gale today for the medal....peeing down with rain.....you know, the "might as well put down a 0.1 now" type of day..... especially as the course had been set up difficult because we are hosting one of the winter Jamega tour events tomorrow..... :mad:

started with a par...OK not bad....but then followed it up with 5 straight bogies and then 2 double bogies.......here we go :angry: ....made a nice par on 9 to finish the front 9 at 9 over gross and ALL my handicap gone...... :rolleyes:

Mentioned to my partner on the 10th that I now had to shoot level gross back 9 at which point the heavens really opened up and the wind blew even stronger....... then proceeded to shoot the back 9 in 1 under gross with 3 consecutive birdies on the 3 hardest holes.... :clap:

The sense of satisfaction to claw back such a crappy start was enormous. I really knuckled down and never gave up.

So 1 under handicap and now just have to wait for the CSS. My only concern is that not many will be playing the medal today because of the conditions. None of the other 5 in our 2 x 3 balls were in it...(wimps!!). If I end up being the only one in it, then CSS will the same as my nett so no H/C reduction.....which would be really annoying as playing under H/C today in those conditions definitely warrants a cut.
I didn't see many others out there apart from the pro's who were playing a practice round and measuring out the course ready for tomorrow.

Still...I'm in a happy place and just pondering what could have been if I'd had a better start.....

Anyone else stupid enough to play in the storms today?
 
just spoke to our pro who was there practising today ahead of tomorrows comp, said the weather was horrid but the course was in good nick.

sounds like top shooting on the back half Rick :)
 
fair play Rick, was at work today near Biggleswade and struggled just getting my ladders up and when I had the telegraph pole was wobbling like a good un... thats the 1st time I have nearly sent a job back for being too windy (oh and it was launching it down)

Even if you dont get a cut, just be happy you turned it round on the back 9 and in pants conditions. Wonder how you will play on a flat calm spring day ;)

Im sure Smiffy is more than capable of making such allowances at Woburn (and he won't even need a computer to work it out) :D

Nice back 9 Rick, you must have played in the morning, we ventured out in the afternoon under sunshine and blue skies. It was windy though and said wind did bring a couple of sharp showers.

If we put our two rounds together, it would be amazing as my front 9 was good coupled with a dismal back 9.
 
Due to an unexpected 4 hour free slot I ventured out to try and find the game I'd lost somewhere between the 1st and the 18th the other day.....

Very windy and some torrential rain at times - took shelter (I don't care!) - and may have found some bits of it....

Shot a 75 for 36 points but had my first Eagle for nearly 18 months on our 7th. And a proper one too. Fairway hit, green hit, 15 foot putt drained! Quality.
A birdie as well. Hitting greens and fairways was a bit tricky but they were never too far off.

Signs that the game is still there..........

Please tell me you were't decked out in your white water proofs, while waving your new white sticks about, in your white golf shoes?

OK......I won't....:ears:

Anyway as you're keen to know.......Black trousers.....Maroon UnderArmour, black/white polo, black fleece, Blue/white Mizuno waterproof top & black mizuno Waterproof trousers, black shoes, red Taylormade hat...............and of course my black MacWets!.........happy now?
 
Results are in and I got a small cut of 0.2 but CSS stayed same as par which was a bit of a joke.

Reasons are that in the end only 6 people entered the medal.....2 of those were DQ'd (probably didn't hand cards in after swiping in as they probably didn't finish the round......or had such crap scores that they didn't bother entering them as the HDID site shows N/R against each hole for both of them)

the other gross scores were:

me - 79 - 9 H/C
104 - 17 H/C
106 - 23 H/C
113 - 22 H/C

so i won by a gross 25 and a nett 13.......yet I only got cut 0.2 because of how the CSS is calculated...:confused:

I know for a fact that if there had been a decent field turnout then CSS would have been a minimum of 73 possibly 74 in the conditions we had and I'd have been looking at a 0.6 or 0.8 cut so not too happy with only 0.2 which still leaves me on 9..... :(

Might have a chat with the H/C secretary especially as the 2 DQ's were 7 & 16 H/C and therefore would and should have affected CSS if they had put in poor scores.

Now I just need to recreate my back 9 form in the 2 qualifiers on Sat & Sun.......:one:
 
The thing to learn from this, is to walk in when the rain comes. It is no fun, and clearly pointless staying out in it.

Water proofs are for getting you back to the club house, not for playing in.
 
It is harsh when CSS is calculated like that as it fails to take into account the fact that some people jacked what could have been a horrendous card. Well played though great back nine performance :thup:
 
Not sure the ensemble was thought out very well. Lots of clashes but obviously worked for you. Sorry it was only a small cut (pending bending the H/C secs ear) but anything is better than 0.1 back
