• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Thing that you have hit on a golf course. Apart from the green.

I pulled my drive hard left off of our first tee a couple of years back, hit the clubhouse roof hard, and bounced right back into the middle of the fairway. Did similar before, hit the flagpole in the middle of the car park.

One of our Texas Scramble team, on Monday, teeing off on 17, managed to hit the seed box two foot to his right.........before bouncing 2 yds past the ladies tee.

Sheep and cows. Once thinned a chip that hit an opponents ball at a hundred mile an hour(small lie) and ricocheted into the hole for a birdie... apparently I'm of questionable parentage.

All these are whilst I was a junior at Dewsbury, not hit anything daft for a while!

Once thinned a teeshot on the 12th into the ladies wooden tee marker 40 yards in front (the little log type ones with the ends cut at 45 degrees or so) and watched the ball sail back over our heads into the woods.

Absolutely creamed a 3 iron into the marker post 100 or so yards away at the top of the hill on the 8th and watched the ball just roll all the way back down into the rough at the front of the tee.

A mate once hit the bell full on that was on the tree in the middle of the 17th fairway. CLANG!

Hit overhead pylon wires a few times on various courses, that's always annoying.

My Dad once carved the biggest slice in golf history onto the M62 whilst playing the 10th at Willow Valley. Hopefully it hit nowt other than tarmac!

Thinking of going to play in an open at Willow Valley, Is it a nice course mate?

Personally I wouldn't bother. Looked like it would mature into a good track when it was built in the 90's boom, but the couple of times I've been in the last 5 or so years the condition has been poor. Everything seems to be going down hill, Courses, pro shop, driving range etc. From the outside looking in seems its more a business built around the driving range and footgolf now. It also has one of the daftest par 5's I've ever played in the 3rd.

Not a fan in summary.

Not played since there since October last year. Drive past on the M62 every morning and always looks in good condition (close up may be different). Its not a bad place to play golf if, like me, you're a high hcp. The Pine Valley course is good fun but not too tough, willow valley course always like to relieve me of golf balls!

Friend of mine swears he saw someone nail a drive into the red tee marker just in front of him on the 1st at Dorking and it rebounded backwards into the bushes and was never seen again.

Actually I've got this one sewn up. 9th hole at Turnberry (before Trump got his hands on it). Hit the stone cairn in the middle of the fairway and it rebounded into the Atlantic Ocean. Was last seen next to the sapphire the old lady from the Titanic dropped over the side of the boat.

Managed to hit a horse on the rump on Wimbledon Common. It was part of the regular pony trekkers and in my defence the ball had left the club as it trotted from behind the gorse. It went a fair lick when I hit it with the poor girl hanging on for grim death. Fortunately no lasting damage done to horse or rider

Back in my younger years as a junior at Stourbridge golf course I hit my mate Ian that I was playing with. He was walking up the side of the fairway, I shanked it and it hit him in the back of the leg.

Apart from the normal trees and fence posts, I have hit a direction post square on with a drive and had the ball rebound 60 yards back towards me. I have also hit a stone tee marker on the ladies tee from which the ball ricochet'd back and finished 50 yards behind me. Animal wise I have hit a seagull in flight, a Canada goose, a sheep, a cow and two other golfers. Only the seagull was killed. In my one and only round on the Old Course at St Andrews, I hit a wild slice on the 18th hole which bounced off a building on the other side of the road and finished up back on the fairway: I made a rather lucky par! 😀

nethybridge.jpg

Lovely wee course at Nethybridge has a war memorial situated in the rough on the right side of the first hole. Hit the "thin" side of this with a 3 wood shot which rebounded almost back to my feet. Golf balls and Cairngorm granite don't mix well ;)

A sheep that was in the middle of the fairway. Amazing I know that I hit one down the fairway.

Pro shop door, followed by clubhouse door. Ball then rolled across patio at Blackmoor, and finished six inches in bounds.

Trolley belonging to Mike Harris at Royal Liverpool.

I've hit quite a few Geese, as we share the lake with Kedleston Hall, and they like to settle down for the evening n the middle of the 6th fairway.

At Camberley last year, after the HFH day, Kraxx (Stu) hit a low hooky drive on the 3rd hole which hit my trolley and left a big dent in it.

I stuck my drive on a freight train that ran alongside a course once, guaranteed to be bloody longer than any forum distances

You've reminded me that I once shanked a shot into the car park adjacent to the 18th hole at a former club. It hit a car, which turned out to be my own! It was left with a small golf ball sized dent in a door panel. ☹️

Saw Fragger tenderise a deers backside with a thinned tee shot on the par 3 17th at my club

Oh yes, The famous Deer Stampede of 2012 at Belton Park, Grantham

Longish par 3, thinned a hybrid and it smacked this deers rump, the whole pack took off like there was a pride of lions about, but it was only little me :)

my wife caddied for me one day ,she gave up after being hit between the first and second hole ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,we were playing the fifth at the time and she wasnt best pleased

Once turned around at the weald of kent after the fourball behind me whizzed another shot past my head (third occasion) , dropped a ball I found and smashed it at them - they were lucky as they jumped back into their buggy. Stern words exchanged by the clubhouse and apologises from everyone.
