Hall of Famer
As someone who gave up golf in his late teens after falling out of love with the game (not enough cash to do my PGA exams, a BIG loss of form, beer, girls, football) and not starting again for 10 years I really regret it especially the lost time I could have played with my dad (as per my article). Haad an on-off affair from the age of 25-35 with the game before jacking it in (family reasons). Now I'm back. Last year I went from 20 to 13 in a matter of months sweeping all before me in July and August (medal and stableford wins and multiple greedy winner). This year my game has hit rock bottom again (last in club championship) and at times I've struggled to put club on ball.
Have I thought about quitting. Of course. However my love for the game, and especially the joy of practicing (as long as it is honing rather than reinforcing mistakes) and learning from ones errors has more than kept me going. Sure my self-esteem and my pride (getting some serious grief about my form from my mates) have been knocked but I'm a fighter and I will get better. Anyway I don't fish and I'd rather go round in 120 every weekend than spending 2 hours on the shopping run in Sainsbury's
